The second edition cover art shows the same car with the twin bulge hood added, and looky, a bench seat in place of the buckets. The 325-horse 396 was added to the Beaumont lineup as the base engine in the new 738-series.
One goofy aspect of the changeover was the re-assigning the same RPO, A51. A51 used to mean conversion to Sport Deluxe with buckets, console & trim changes. Mid year it changed to simply mean bucket seats. If you wanted a console you'd now
have to spec D55. Some salesmen didn't read the memo. I know of two cars whose orders were in the pipeline that were built differently from what the purchasers expected. One was a Beaumont Custom with buckets & a column shift Powerglide when
a Sport Deluxe was expected. A similar thing happened to a Chevelle Malibu, a Malibu SS was expected but a column-shifted Malibu with buckets was the result.
In years of looking, the second edition brochure is far more rare. I have both. Same with the Canadian Chevelle brochures.
