Thanx Todd - a ton of memories here. I rode the 'Red Rocket' from Danforth/Woodbine to

St. Mikes at Bathurst/St. Clair from 1959 thru 1963. (Grades 9 thru 12).

Interesting fact about the early subway cars pictured in the open cut.

These were taken on a Sunday or holiday as they only had 4 cars due to the low ridership.

The conductors would not wait for you if you were at the end of the platform, they would close the

doors and go.

Another trivial fact. At the Davisville yard you will see two silver subway cars. The cars had plaques

on their  walls commemorating Queen Elizabeth's visit to Toronto's new subway and these were the coaches she rode it.

I stand corrected on the silver cars at the Davisville yard being used for the Queen.

According to a friend that worked for the TTC and is a bit of a buff the Queen never rode

or visited the TTC in the early days. The silver cars were aluminum bodied cars in an attempt

to make them more efficient due to less weight. The experiment was not a success.....
