Amazing story.  Kind of sad that the guy never got to enjoy his car again, but at least the investment of keeping the car will help pay for his care now.  Original 'Cudas are pretty rare these days, so that's one incredible find.

I grew up in Ancaster and was generally familiar with some of the interesting cars in Hamilton / Burlington area. I do not remember that particular 'cuda. Most of the 'cudas in the area were 340s however.

Seeing a car like that emerge solid and mostly unscathed is really cool! The '71 340 was one of the best versions with high compression & the new Thermo Quad carb. There were more Super Bee, Coronet R/T, Charger R/T, Road Runner and GTX examples around than 'cuda and Challenger as I recall.

Funny story, back in 1970 when my mom was getting her 1960 VW worked on at King-West Volkswagen in Hamilton, we walked one block east along King past Bay-King Motors Dodge-Chrysler (usually it was Plymouth-Chrysler in the franchises). There in the showroom was a brand new Panther Pink Swinger 340 with twin scoops, a rear spoiler & a black diagonal tail stripe. Now a car like that you could spot blocks away, but I never saw it on the road. Decades later in the Canadian Classics magazine that Dale Lidstone published down east I saw what is very likely the same car, still with the original owner in Georgetown, ON. It was likely a dealer transfer to the local Georgetown Dodge dealer.

A similar story regarding on of eleven Hemicudas sold new in Canada for 1971. We had a broken shackle on our tent trailer somewhere between Montreal & Quebec City during a 1971 construction phase of the Trans-Canada highway and we found ourselves stranded in a little town with no English-speaking folks around. While we were waiting for a local French-speaking welder to fix things up (he did a great job BTW), my brother and I heard this nasty '71 cuda, a Hemicuda no less! Sassygrass Green with billboards & vinyl top, it cruised by slowly, sounding like it was loading up. A few minutes later we heard this WAIL to the east. No doubt he opened up both carburettors. THAT very car was featured in Dale Lidstone's magazine around 2000 in like new condition. I saw it when it was new.

There was  also a 1970 Dodge Challer R/T SE Hemi in Ancaster, 1 of 4 in Canada. The guy who owned it treated it like a museum piece. He bought it new and new it stayed. I did witness him take off beside another local who owned a 1968 Corvette L-71 427 back in 1974. They were headed to the outskirts of town to see what they could do. Don't be shocked by the mention of an unsanctioned duel; it was not uncommon back then. Even my friend's father did it; he was a local Doctor who made housecalls. The cops & him would line up in the wee hours after a call and make a run. I don't remember Ancaster having fast police cars, though they had a pair of 1973 AMC Ambassadors with 401 power & the LAPD Matador underpinnings nod.gif

Where I am now was a neighbour who had lived here since 1972. He was a newlywed in 1970 who bought a brand new 1970 'cuda 340 4-speed as his driver. After somebody backed into his door in 1974 he got it fixed properly, then he took it off the road for decades. Back around 1992 I first heard and then saw a really nice, mint, 1-owner 1970 'cuda 340. Larry was always cleaning his cars and his 'cuda always looked like new.

Here's a picture of a 'cuda that looks identical to his except for the tire size. The one shown has 14" wheels while Larry's had 15" with 60-series Polyglas GT F60-15.
