1967 Grande Parisienne 427?


Has anyone ever seen a factory 1967 Grande Parisienne 427? Does anyone have pictures of one? I know there was no external engine ID on this  model year, so it is not always easy to spot.

Not able to find any pictures or articles online except for the magazine test article posted here.

Another well researched and documented thread notes that the 67 Grande Parisienne came standard as a V8 therefore no external badges were affixed.

For some reason even the 396 was quite rare in the Grande with only about 250 installed from the numbers I have seen, so the 427 would have been very rare indeed.

Too bad. One of those classy sport coupes with the new optional front discs, the 427 and the other performance options would have been a real delight on the road.

Kind of wish I could go back in time to check off the right options for that year!

So I'm going to order a 1967 Grande Parisienne wagon 427 4 speed (of course) and I have some questions for the salesman-

-I want A42 power seat but I can't order it with M20? (Pretty sure I know why)

-Can I get C60 air with M20? When I bought my new 66 Grande Parisienne hardtop I couldn't order M20 and C60 together? it looks like that changed?

-Why can't I get A53 Strato Bench on my wagon? I can get it in a 76639 4 door hardtop? Same seat, no folding backs.

-Can your dealership put in an accessory K30 cruise control kit with a switch on the clutch pedal as well?

-I want power door locks but it's not listed. The US models have them (I just saw one a few days ago in a junkyard) so why not the Canadian cars?

Interesting that it says C47 underseat heater must not be specified on 76657 (Grande Parisienne 2 dr ht). About 40 years ago I parted out a 67 Grande Parisienne 2 dr ht 396/TH400 with buckets and console. It had an underseat heater. It's the only one I've ever seen. I wonder if they had an accessory kit for them and why could they put it in as an accessory but not as a factory options?

Interesting. In 1966 it didn't. My first 66 Grande Parisienne (that I converted to a 427) was a manual steering car of all things....

If a salesman told you something as a fact, verify it independently as salesmen will say anything.

Power steering wasn't standard on any full-size Canadian Pontiac until March, 1971. Power door locks didn't show up on Chevrolets until the 1969 models, and they were vacuum operated that one year.

Even in the era of cheap gas, people were still generally shy about feeding a 427.


If I were given an option sheet today with the option of going back in time, I would have to have a lot of parking spaces available, perhaps even as many as Hillar had. There are so many ways one could specially and purposefully order new cars back then, I couldn't just stop at one car. I'd want a sleeper, a performance-oriented 2+2, a loaded Grande Parisienne (with a 4-speed), perhaps even a rationally ordered daily driver with a 327 275-horse. Maybe even a Strato Chief taxi with a 250 six, 11" clutch, and a mission to turn the odometer over as many times as you can. I don't mind a 3-in-the-tree.

 

A disk brake 4-speed big block Grande Parisienne wagon (396 would be a more parsimonious option), but wait, that is all show. Lets be practical, a Laurentian Safari. Do you think  the dealer could install a Mod Top (floral vinyl roof) on one?

Excellent checkoffs. I couldn't add much that's for sure. However, a 67 2+2 that I sold to 67 Poncho quite a few years ago was a disc brake car and came with 5" by 15 inch rallys (which I still have) I would have thought they would have been included in the disc brake option for the extra cooling that you would need or just for the clearance.

I had the salesman check the boxes on forms like that for several cars I orders and inevitably I always knew more about the options and which were available with what than the salesman, I didn't stop at equipment I went into colours and fabric as well. It was a complicated practice to read all the material and understand it so completely understandable that the salesman could know it all especially when they had to sell the entire line of cars. Then dealing with car nerds like us, must have been a fun job, eh? Two cars I ordered actually showed up the way I wanted them both US builds, a Bonneville and a Monte Carlo SS, the others missing something, oh well.

 Checked off U35, but I'm assuming (according to the option costing list) the Clock is Std on all but the Laurentian and Strato 75 series. 

I never knew this.

In 69 had the clock become optional in the Parisienne? I've seen quite a few with the blank in place.

 

One other question, was a blue convertible actually available in 67? Ever seen one?

 Yes, the part about the clearance is exactly right. I put a 68 4 piston setup on that first 66 I bought and I can assure you there is no 14" wheel in existence that fits. I tried EVERYTHING in hopes of keeping 14" wheels on the car but no luck, I had to put 15" on it.

 I've seen a 1967 with a blue top. It was a medium blue that matched Nantucket Blue. I've seen 68s with their version as well.

As far as documented examples, there is one on the list of 50 cars shipped that surrounded mine in December, 1966. It was a Malibu convertible,  Nantucket Blue with a blue top & matching interior. How boring. Power steering & drum brakes, 283 Powerglide, power top, no radio, 7.35-14 whitewalls & wheelcovers.

 

For Chevelles & Beaumonts, clocks were standards on the Beaumont Custom & Chevelle Malibu through 1967, then made optional.

My 67 camaro came with a light blue top with matching blue interior.Exterior colour is deepwater blue.Top looks original

I remember planning to order a new Dodge Caravan in 1994. I knew way more than the salesman as I had been studying the fleet order guide at work. It is always something to see a salesman trying to catch up.


Carl, K30 Cruise Control was factory available only with V8 / automatic powertrains, but there were dealer kits for manual transmission cars. Question, do you plan to order an L72 and set the cruise so you can cross the Prairies in an afternoon like a Saskatchewan Screamer?

I don't know how feasible it was (maybe it was in 1967) but the L72 came from the same factory at the other production 396 & 427 engines that were going into Canadian Pontiacs. They had already offered them on 1966 Pontiacs. I wonder if you became a thorn in the side of the Zone Office if they could've run an L72-powered Pontiac down the line in 1967 (or 68). Especially if you didn't want to deviate in other ways from production (m20 vs M21, special order gearing etc).

Rally Wheels were included (and only offered) with J52 Disc Brakes for 1967. In 1968 Rally Wheels were now a separate option no longer included with disc brakes (there may have been a phase-in period). Careful as some drum brake Rally Wheel versions were made 1968-70 and they won't clear the brakes.

5" wide Rally Wheels were 1967 only, although they may have used up stock on early 1968 models. I remember seeing a '67 Impala SS that had those skinny 15x5 Rally Wheels. It was a totally mint original survivor (this was back in '74). L30 327, Turbo-Hydramatic, pizza-cutter Rally Wheels with flat caps, Bolero Red with black buckets.
