Small block vs big block in a drag race

In a different derailed thread a debate began about SB vs BB in a drag race.

Let the bench racing begin about what is faster...

There's no substitute for cubic inches. However, I think the other thread was comparing a newer generation LS engine vs old school big block.

This would work pretty good.

But then again you could just top it with this...

Not unless there is an LT1 manifold made to fit an LS eninge.

" Ok.... Now talking SB.

You can build a killer SB 475 HP street, get 20 MPG. Tell everyone its a 327 with headers....  stroker crank, aluminum heads painted orange, LT1 manifold, Holley , idle like 283. Same $$ or cheaper than BB and whip every BB in town!!!!"

What's the premise?

I think just about any small block Corvette would take any B Body barge with a BBC.

If talking stock, I think even a 425 L72 wouldn't really feel overwhelmingly fast compared to most small displacement LS powered performance cars.

It would look cool and certainly make all the right sounds, but really the B is just too heavy.

They really can't be compared.

I didn't see anywhere in the original thread about it being a B body race? Or an LS? My thought was LT1Caddy was saying 2 identical cars except powered by an SB and BB respectively?

You're cheating with the hair dryer on the side of the engine though.

thats a factory installed hair dryer, if I replaced it with say a leaf blower that would be cheating

BB vs small block, how big is your wallet?

The biggest stock C2 or C3 vette I am told couldnt touch the modern high hp small blocks, stock.

Bring your wallet, which wins in drag racing?

For a $10,000 build, which is faster in the same car?

And that's the question. Is there a budget? What's allowed, what's not?

Are we talking stone stock or modified?

Oh boy....This sure got some guys attention !!!
Seems like not too many dissenters in my corner..

I should not have opened the door with saying you could modify the engine. But it would be have to be the same car, even a B body of the 60-70's era. No late model LT1/LS1 stuff, that would be taking candy from a baby.....
So I'm thinking Ray and Mark are in my corner...So far!!!

Ok so we are talking stock small block vs stock big block?

No mods? Which body? What are the choices for engine, transmission and gears?

How about a 1970 Corvette, only factory delivered options.

I don't think they put a high HP SB in a mid 60's or 70's B body?

Not enough detail yet.

What engine is in your Corvette?

And what are my choices for a big block?

Transmission? Gears?

How about a 1966 or 1967 Corvette. Are we still doing only engines available in that car in that year? You're not being specific enough.

If we can pick a 1966 or 1967 Corvette stock big block vs stock small block I'm afraid your small block will be VERY embarrassed.

Or if you don't like my Corvette choices, how about a 1969 Camaro, stock big block vs stock small block?

Yup I like being on the outnumbered aside!

It gives a chance to tell the story of the Battle of Crysler's Farm during the War of 1812.

Ok, now let's play a few other options.

1969 Camaro

1966 Corvette

1967 Corvette

1966 Impala

1968 Chevelle

1970 Chevelle

Let me know now those small blocks did against the big blocks.

Should have put one parameter in.. On todays fuel. Never thought of that with the 11:1 comp ratio. 66/67 Corvette will need 110 octane, 66 impala no contest.

Let me know now those small blocks did against the big blocks.

Well, the 69 Camaro could be bought from the factory with a ZL1
