Here's something of interest. My dad bought a new 1959 Oldsmobile from Addison on Bay.

When I mentioned this to a local 'all knowing' car fan he said "no no - they ONLY sold Cadillacs" no

I showed him this and he couldn't believe it AND I told him I was with my dad when he bought it, I was 13.biggrin.

And this is the guy that swears he sold a 1967 Impala 409 with dual carbs new to a lady - now don't get me stated on that one.wink

My question is why did an oil change only take 3 quarts?

Likely old style oil change, only do the filter every other oil change. I still can't believe that used to be the norm but when I was working in the garage in the 70's some guys still did that.

 Interesting.

Weren't the quarts bigger back then??.......all seriousness aside I can only assume they did not change the oil filter

if in fact a 1959 371 Olds engine had an oil filter. no

Yes Carl - I do remember that now. IIRC some work orders we got in 64/65 stated 'do not change oil filter' hmm

Figured on the no filter, but thought they would hold more?, but apparently not, 4.1 imp quarts with filter so 3 without. The strange things they did back in the day...
