I was told theres a black on black 66 Cheetah in Winnipeg, was for sale in the early 1990's for $6500 had an M22 tranny in the trunk and modified big block under the hood, sitting in a barn requiring restoration, I tried many times to track the car-no luck, but someone who lives there may have better luck, the guy who told me of the car worked at the library can't remember the name, not much to go on but hey you never know
I remember a triple black SD bigblock ht pulling into the pony coral on a sunday about 12-13 years ago. loaded with options. i always look back and question if it was a cheetah or not. I was only about 18 at the time, only saw the car once. it was nice though, not a barn car.
hey Dave I know that 67 you are talking about -it is still around-not driving though. It is Norm's old car.Not a real SD car believe it or not-it is a 67 custom cloned into a big block SD car 427 4 speed-loaded with every factory option you can think of.It is sitting outside and now needs a complete resto again.I know a guy out of Moris who has seen a cheetah first hand about 3 years ago in Alberta-needed a complete restoration-but was all there he wanted over 30 grand for the car-but again it was all there.Carl on here knows both these guys too-the fella that owned and built the triple black 67 car still works with Carl at Rosenort.
Keep in mind that these cars were Dealer conversions so the docs may not read anything special and will probably just show L35 or L34 at best...more like Dana Camaros, Gorries Panthers and other '67 L72 Dealer conversions were built than Yenko cars..
If there's a possibility Conroy somehow managed to convince GM to build it as the non-available L78 Beaumont, that's probably as good as it can get but I wouldn't count on it or anything Copo either as even Yenko had to wait until '68 Camaro production to get the '68 Copo 9737 cars which had the unique MM Cowl tags and shipped w/ L78's and Eaton rears etc but replaced w/ L72's by Yenko..
Even '67 Yenko conversion cars had a Fleet Code on the tags also any specially prepared '67 Oshawa car would probably have a Cowl tag w/ a SO or FC # (Shop Order / Fleet Code) or be stamped Red Tag, Special or something else unique as the word has always been that the Copo designation wasn't used until '68 or later at the Oshawa plant?.

WOW, It's great to finally see pictures of a Cheetah. As far as I know, these are the first pictures of a Cheetah to be posted on the www. What are the plans for the car? That car needs a proper restoration. James
$$$??? Nope!! But thanks for the gesture!! Besides, if things go well for it, I am sure I will get reinbursed somehow!! Now, for the not so good info- but I hope it works out.... When I called Vintage to give the VIN, first I had, and I forgot, you have to fax it in not, but no problem there!! Secondly, and not important to this thread but just to me, I told him about my previous "free" docs and how I worked with GM and even had a file number for the services but the documents they provided in '94 didn't include numbers produced for Canada!! He said sorry, but I would now have to pay!! (Darn it!! lol) And thirdly and of course most importantly, when I gave him the VIN For the Cheetah and told him about it, he really didn't seem to know about it? He said if it were a dealer item, it possibly will not be noted on the breakdown docs!! So, I am not sure what we are going to get on this!!! But, please stay tuned.......................................................................
funny how they ordered a 396 in a 736 SD when they could have ordered a 283 SD ? being that they were going to pull the motor anyway and put in a 427? you would think they could have ordered it without a engine? ive seen cars ordered just in primer! i could see after december you had no choice but to take a 738 396 SD
That would have to be a custom conversion like the Boss 429 Mustang though since a big block won't fit those 67 and older X bodies without serious massaging.
Or did you mean 68-70? Now THAT would have been a cool car.
Someone up for making a clone maybe ???

Great find 67Poncho!!! You said he had the origional motor, would be interisting to get the casting #'s off it to see what it is...396 or 427?? Many moons ago working at an Esso west of Portage I used to see a gold Cheeta once in a while... Black vinal roof, BB, with the black SD stripe along the bottom. Was interisted in it because I had a 67 Custom myself. (early 70's). They were out there!!
