RE: April 2008 Feature Car

Huh, that's interesting. F5 works for me. I'm no geek, so I had no idea.

Thanks to everyone who commented and complimented my wagon. To answer just a few questions about production numbers and motors etc..I have Beaumont wagons right now 2 68's and 2 69's.The nimbers produced from my bild sheets were as follows.68 Beaumont wagon V8 Deluxe(plain janers) 340,68 Custom wagons L6 (FANCIER MORE TRIM) 39!! 69 Deluxe V8 349,69 Custom V8 440.Now I have no idea exactly how they rate what is what as far as totals are concerned, but I have found 4 in the last 15 plus years and bought all of them-they simply aren't there to be found or they are hiding out there still which I am sure of.My cars came from alberta(2),Victoria B.C.,and the Manitoba Interlake.I think that 327 was the biggest motor available as far as everything I have researched on them.
I am about 3/4 of the way through a complete rotissiere resto of the 69 Custom wagon from B.C.,and believe it or not by the time I stripped it to bare metal it was much worse than the 68 you see in these pics.It will be Dark Green with a silver or white stripe,Fat Block motor, turbo 400,Bench(power of course),power windows, power electric locks,tilt,AM/FM,Speedminder,tach and Guages, low fuel warning light, bumper guards, disc brakes, 12 bolt posi, fast ratio 3 turn steering, soft ray glass, lighting group, roof rack, bright door trim,SD 427 badges, vigilite light monitoring system, rear defrost, fat block hood of course.Power rear glass window. The car is back on the frame from the rottisiere, underside is totally painted a detailed.
This car was supposed to be a driver-it was running when all I needed was a driveshaft put in and it would be driving around.Don't ask what happened-just one saturday I tore the car down to a bare shell and started a frame off-yes I am completely fully and completely a sucker for perfection and I just can't leave "good enough" alone.Although the second wagon will be exceptionally cool when it is done-the 68 will remain my favorite. My 68 SD396 Convertible will be next to finish off.I am going to need a bigger corral!!

John

The 68 would be a great candidate for the Hot Rod Power Tour. I can almost guarantee you'd get a photo in the magazine.

That would be really cool, but would depend upon a time schedule etc..I have family commitments,as well as my company that I own,25 employees etc..So maybe, but I have a hard time making it to alot of car shows although this year I want to get a few more in.Summer brings very tight schedules with the business I am in with deadlines and all.It sounds like it would really be fun though.Carl,Gary and I went south a few years back to a Pontiac show with his Acadian and my 66 Convertible Beaumont. It was a nice long ride and the cars were great!! Met a ton of nice people. It was in Springfield ,Illinois. We even got to see a fella that owned a 61 or 62 Pontiac Catalina SD( He was handicapped,as he had a hook on one of his arms),he came sideways into the show with tire smoke coming from both rear wheelwells. He was enjoying the ride non the less!!I think he was about 60 or so,but from the smile on his face you'd think he was 16 again.lol.

It takes alot of everything to do a car, time ,money, understanding from the family members, constantly asking buddies for a hand, buying parts from speed shops that don't know what fits what, etc...etc..Can't believe I am actually doing another one right now. This is definately my last wagon though-they are way way too much work compared to a 2 door car.Lining up 4 doors instead of 2 for one.Or how about blocking out a wagon roof-that was lotsa fun-over 150 plus hours to get it perfect.Or how having over 10 people help put the body back onto the frame-it was extremely heavy. The most challenging part to come is lining up the 2-way tailgate-not looking forward to it at all.Just have to keep convincing myself that I love old cars-and knowing when to walk away instead of pulling out the sledgehammer. But in all honesty when you finish a car that has been taken so far apart-you can step back and say"I built this car from a turd"-look at it now-it is all worth it!! Just hope that we are still able to drive our beautiful cars in the years to come-it makes me sad what is going on these days with gas, enviromental issues ans so on.Hopefully we get things straightened out so that our kids can experience what we all love so much-our fantastic hobby is way too much fun!!

If you think this car is nice, you should see it in person... Absolutely amazing.

I like what you've done, digging into the archives. It's fun to look back at some of these.

Hi All,

I remember the very first time I saw that car in Marshall's Auto Salvage in June of 1995.   My buddy had to climb about ten to fifteen feet up to get the numbers off that car.  It was sitting on top of two other cars and wasn't exactly all that well balanced.

Greg wasn't real happy about doing it but it was worth the climb.  The car then sat in Marshalls for the next five years before anything happened with it.   I remember John calling me asking about Beaumont wagons.   Somehow we talked about the one in Marshalls and I either gave him Greg's number or passed John's number back to Greg.

Greg then got the car, stored it at his place and helped to get it ready for the trip
back to Winnipeg.   I was later lucky enough to see this car in person at a car show put on by the local Ford club in Winnipeg back in 2004.

Its one of the nicest '68 Beaumonts I've ever seen.

Rumours have been that my neighbour sold his 68 Beaumont wagon, a former feature car here, to Calgary area.

I see this on Kijiji today and just spoke with an employee of the former owner who confirmed it was sold and trailered west.

Anyone here buy it, or know who did?
