Vintage radios

What sound sytem do you have in your car?
I am big fan of Satelite radio and want to put it in the BeauCamino but like the look of the vintage radio. Anyone else do something similar?

The Laurentian has an AM/FM 8 track that still works. I'm going to hide my new deck which plays SD cards and have a switch to choose between the 2. I now have a 4 gig SD card. That will hold alot of songs. I also have a mobile satellite receiver. I'm going to swap the front speaker for dual 4" and put a second speaker in the back. My car has only one speaker back there right now (the auxiliary speaker option)

I'm with Carl, I like the symphony of sound from under the hood.  That being said, I know there are a couple of guys in Ontario who do conversions of factory radios to modern specs.  I think one is called Old Tyme Radio?  I'm sure they both advertise in Old Autos.

I put an original tube AM radio in my 55 gmc and the sound is nice especially though the speaker in the middle just above the rearview mirror, (ya right can't tell the difference over the wind noise). The only problem is the one AM station around this area ceased AM transmissions last year and only broadcast on FM now. For the beaumont I acquire a 65 acadian AM radio, (early bird get the radio carl). I went this route because I had traded off the radio delete plate for doors from a 2 door and I like the look of the original style radio. Since its an early beaumont on the H platform and is a trim level of the first series acadians I can use acadian and nova/chevy II stuff upto 65. Now i have a line on a used power amp 800 watts, (this is good) and i reasontly refurbished a set of old JBL speakers to be bolted down in the back. on a furthur note when we go to the drive-in we are required to bring a ghettoblaster if we to take the beast because they broadcast on FM.

i've been listening to motor too, cant remember how many years its been since i turned on the stereo... but my 'hidden' set up involves, stereo in the glove box (handmade alum. enclosure that still has storage), two center speakers in the dash (factory location), mids in the front vents, titanium tweeters where the vent pull knobs were (these are covered in black speaker cloth and are very discreet), speaker cloth right across the rear ledge, hides two mid-bass, and a 10" sub behind the rear seat, amp is behind there as well, this is hidden in the trunk by a false panel across the back...

the conversions look pretty interesting too... depends what you are looking for sound wise to what level of components you want to put in... big limitation is no factory locations for front sound... my system required no cutting of any original components of the car, but i did lose my front air vents....
