We know for sure that there are some 738 cars made in Decemeber. I was hoping someone would chime in with some dates that the time frame could be narrowed down within a few days.

Hey Aka 67 SD,

Yes I have confirmation of six cylinder coupe and convertible which are SD's.    The option package was a hold over from the '66 model year.    As the AutoPact program started to progress the Sport option package was discontinued so that the American and Canadian production lines would harmonize (look the same).

So the decision was made by GM of Canada for the rest of the '67 model year to have the Sport Deluxe and Super Sports resemble their American counters part ('67 Chevelle SS).   So the only engines offered after that were the 325 and 350 HP engines.   For some reason the 375 HP engine was not available in a Canadian built car.

I'd be intersted in talking to you, Loud or anyone else who has a Beaumont no matter what the model.    I assisted Shawn Heffernan with questions on his car and I'd be happy to assist anyone else.

My email is Daweir@telus.net, I'll be on two weeks vacation, but once I'm back I'll answer questions to the best of my ability.    Include VIN number and cowl tag information and any questions you have.

Hi Dave, i'll be sending you my info (gm docs and the production line sheets) which i have when i called george for my car about 18 years ago... i'm just in home reno hell and when i get organized i'll share them with you for your files... i also have paperwork for a gold/gold 736 SD hardtop 283/pg car that i owned that was parted out... and a 69 firebird T/A RAIII car... My SD was originally a 283/pg car, silverglaze metallic, black vinyl top and interior... (it still sports the original interior and top), it had one repaint when i bought it and still has all the original sheet metal...

I have never heard of a 67 sd 6 cyl car... of course i never knew about 736 vin 396 cars!... so when i called about the convertible for sale in SK (that helmut has for sale now) i thought it was a bastardized custom convert!! (all the emblems are incorrect or in the wrong places too) I was actually discussing a deal with that owner that he would have kept his fresh BBC and sell the car to me as a roller... and i would have put a small block in it!! (obviously not knowing it was a super rare 396 car!)... live and learn! this site is a great resource...

i had these pics of tags of two of willies cars he thought were sds,the 735 and 736 threw me at the time

this is a 66 6 cyl car with the a51 option








 this is a 67 with a a51 option

I am having trouble figuring out which VIN tag goes with which cowl tag. Can you clarify the build dates (off cowl tag) for each 67 VIN tag?

i've seen a few 6 cyl 66's (SD) but not a '67, was the one you refer to with A51 a 6 cyl car? also i dont think a51 denotes the SD necessary, only in the earlier build dates? 67BBSD is that true? since A51 is 'buckets' ...i'm sure you would have been able to buy a 67 custom with buckets at some time?

I am fairly sure a 67 Custom would have been available with buckets at any time during the model year, yup.

Maybe i'm a bit slow, if it was, then it had the A51 option... so how would you know from a cowl tag or production log whether a 736 car with A51 was a 'sports option' SD or a Custom with buckets? I wonder if there are other codes or info that George uses to differentiate...

just wondering... i don't think its a controversy...

my car came with a 283 this is so interesting its nuts how there just does not seem to have any concrete info i have no doubt that my cars an sd model even though my vin starts 736 . brian

is it that the early sds are like the early ss cars as it is a trim package or dress up package(hubcaps,buckets console trim,etc) and the later ones are performance packages (engines,suspension,)

Another interesting thing is that there are 67 Customs with buckets and 67 SD's with bench seat.

That really makes no sense when you are trying to figure out a car.

GM documentation is definitely a life saver on these cars.

why does my document says a51 sports option and also under the vehicle it says 1967 pontiac beaumont sport deluxe does my model number help its 73667- convertible same model number only 408 produced for sale in canada

From what the guys here say, the sports option is an SD. I am still learning, but I always used to think a 736 was a Custom no matter what. Sounds like that is not true, and you have documentation stating SD. It is hard to argue with that.

I assume that once they became 738 cars they did not have to have A51 as proven by the bench seat documented SD that was on ebay last year.

early 736 were available as customs or as 'sports option' SD's ...the documentation that labels a 736 car as an SD isnt really 'documentation' this is a cover sheet that George sends you and beside the A51 option, instead of typing 'strato buckets' types in 'sports option'... hence my question when does he know an A51 turned a custom into an sd or only put buckets into a custom? was there another code? George only more recently started writing 'sports option' on the cover sheets for 736 SD's... i've had two which were beyond doubt SD cars (not customs) and the A51 listed 'strato buckets' from GM, but this documentation was given to me about 20 years ago, before the 'look' of the typed up sheet was changed...

also carl are you sure there is a 67sd with a bench? i think would impossible on the 736 vin ones since you needed A51 to be an SD? perhaps when they switched to 738 SDs the A51 became optional (similar to SS Chevelles)...

The blue one on ebay last year had the documents to back it up. With that said, who's to say they weren't made up and copied papers. The only way to say for sure would be to run the VIN with George as well as go over the car thoroughly to make sure it's authentic. Put it this way, it all looked to be in place.

I never saved all the stuff from that auction. Sure should have.

Hi Guys,

Back from the wilds of Alberta...    Okay the blue 66 Beaumont is a Sport Deluxe car the second 67 Beaumont body shell is a Beaumont Custom.   The '67 Beaumont body shell has a production date after the A51 Sports Option package was discontinued so its just a Beaumont Custom.

The tipping point seems to be December of 1966.   From that point on the Beaumont Sport Deluxe was a seperate model again.
