I've got a 1969 Pontiac Lemans convertible that it is breaking my heart to have to sell. New baby and other things have made it impossible to keep and it needs alot of work. It needs about $1200.00 in mechanical work and $5000.00 in bodywork. Any idea what I could list it as?
I don't at the moment as the car is at the shop. The quotes I gave would be what the mechanic and body shop would charge to make it pass Nova Scotia safety inspection which is pretty harsh. (You can't have any fill on the car all the rust has to cut out and welded). I have someone who is interested, but I have no idea what I should even ask.
The 2008 Old Car Price Guide lists your car as being worth this:
Condition Value
6 $660
5 $1980
4 $3300
3 $7430
2 $11550
1 $16500
Add 20% if your car has a V8
Condition 6 is a parts car. Condition 1 is Excellent 95+ show car that is not driven.
I'd guesstimate your car is either a #5 which is defined as "Restorable, Needs complete restoration on body, chassis and interior. May or may not be running, but isn't weathered, wrecked or stripped to the point of it only be useful for parts OR
A #4 which is defined as "Good: A drivable vehicle needing no or only minor work to be functional. Also, a deteriorated restoration or a very poor amateur restoration. All components may need restoration to be "excellent", but the vehicle is mostly usable "as is"."

Good rules! how many cars were sold, in the past, with chicken wire and bondo! I wonder , if they scrape off the paint to check for proper patches
In my youth, every car I owned was full of bondo, some I had to redo each year.
I assume it is 350 2bbl with auto, PS, PB and AM radio and not much else. If it has any extra options, that can enhance the value quite significantly. PW? Rally gauges? AC? tint? any performance options?

$660 for a parts car??? Bucket seats run $400-$500 for cores.Denpending on the options some of these cars are worth more parted out than sinking over $6000 into it or selling them whole. Your car is the same as the GTO.Some GTO guys have more money than brains. This being said I just shake my head at some of the prices that OEM parts are going for. Like what was mentioned before.Options add money and stock parts like carbs do as well
