GM Century Cruise to Woodward Dream Cruise

I have just received an invitation to participate in the GM Century Cruise, representing GM of Canada.  This cruise will take place on Sat. Aug. 16, 2008 in conjunction with the Woodward Dream Cruise.
Several months ago I submitted an application with a history of my involvement with General Motors and my Acadian Beaumont Sport Deluxe.  Several pictures of the car were required to be submitted with the application.  GM Communications in conjunction with the GM Heritage Center in Sterling Heights, MI were in charge of reviewing the applications and selecting the participants.
We are invited to an appreciation event on Friday evening Aug. 15 at the Heritage Center.  On Sat. Aug. 16, 2008 we will be cruising from GM Headquarters at the Renaissance Center in downtown Detroit to the heart of the Woodward Dream Cruise, we will be provided a parking spot right in the middle of the Dream Cruise action.
I'm excited and honored to be involved in the 100th GM Anniversary Celebration.

I've been talking to the people who are working on the GM Woodward Dream  Cruise about getting some Acadian & Beaumonts into then GM 100  Aniversy Display in Burmingham. One is a 66 Acadian Canso SD 4-gear, the other two are Beaumonts. Beaumont Bill's 67 big block SD Convertable & our 1965 Acadian Beaumont Sport Deluxe L79 4-gear Hard Top one of 23 built, which both have been in the MedowBrook Concourse DeElagance Show. Who can I contact to try to get these Canadian cars in with your car for the Curise???? Susie & Joe

Hey Joe,  this is Norm, we were parked together at Frankenmuth not long ago.  The gentleman that contacted me is Frank Sopata, GM Communications,
Email:  gmhc@gm.com (subject line: GM Century Cruise Participant Form)

They invited me to submit an application about 6-8 weeks ago.  Good Luck, I hope to see you there,  Norm Hallett
P.S.  I'm leaving tomorrow for two weeks on the east coast starting with the Nova Nationals in Gettysburg, P.A. so you won't be able to reach me until Aug. 4, 2008.

Now wouldn't you be surprised if I said yes?  We are allowed to have 3 guests at the appreciation event and in the car during the cruise.  So far, my wife has Guest #1 locked up (go figure), my son has bid for Guest #2 and we are holding Guest #3 slot for his wife if she is willing to leave their 3 yr old with someone (we are usually the ones he stays with).

Forespeed,

Congratulations on your invitation to the GM Century Cruise.   Sounds like you have an awesome car and will be a great ambassador for us all.

I hope you take a lot of pictures and post them when you get back.   Good luck at the show, best wishes for a safe trip there and back.

Love to ride shotgun with you to this event!!!

Sounds great, I'll have to check out the display as well. GM usually has a neat display up near the northern end of Woodward. First saw the new Camaro there two years ago.

With your connection any chance of visiting the GM Heritage museum?

We received a packet for the Century Cruise Sat. Aug. 16, 2008.  The cars will be cruising from the Ren Center, north on Woodward, to a turnaround just south of Big Beaver Rd (16 mi).  After turning around, we will park in 3 areas, Chevy triangle (1) and South triangle (2) are in Birmingham, between George St & Lincoln Ave. on old Woodward Ave.  The 3rd parking area will be about 3/4 mile south, at Athens Coney Island, Woodward Ave just south of 14 mile.
We will not know our designated parking spot until Friday night Aug. 15 at the GM Heritage Center.
We are encouraged to drive out cars to the Appreciation Event, on Friday night, at the GM Heritage Center 6:30-9:30pm.
Hope to see some of you there, as far as I know I will have the only Acadian on display.  On Aug. 7, 2008 a list of cars participating will be posted on Dreamcruise.gmnext.com

RE: GM Century Cruise, see the cars and vote your favorite

Please take a minute to view the 100 cars participating in the GM Century Cruise.  Go to GMnext.com where pictures and descriptions are posted.
There is a contest to name the "Top Cruiser" being conducted by the media.  In order to vote for my car, you need to text GM40 to 466398.  Of course you can also vote for any of the other participates by using their GM# in place of mine.
TV coverage of the Woodward Dream Cruise can also be viewed online, with the Century Cruise being shown "live".  Enjoy, I hope to see you there.  Norm

RE: GM Century Cruise to Woodward Dream Cruise

Thanks for the link Norm, enjoyed looking through them all. Beside your Canadian model I only saw a 1986 Parisienne US spec model, so looks like you are carrying the banner for GM Canada.

Now I have to ask, what is worse to an Acadian owner, having most Canadians  refer to it as a Pontiac confuse.gif or having it listed as a Chevrolet on GM's Corporate web site frustrated.gif?

I can live with that, I also do not mind Pontiac as it was sold by the Pontiac dealers.  The one I absolutely hate is people calling it a Canadian Nova.  They don't understand that these cars were built in Canada along with Nova's.  I own a Canadian Nova, it is a 62 convertible built in Oshawa and sold new in Edmonton.  It looks identical to the U.S. built Nova's except the vin# is different and the tags all show GM of Canada.  The Acadian is a Beaumont, not a Nova.

Sorry, for those of us who are technologically challenged, how exactly do you do this?  What is "466398" - is that some sort of a phone number?

Yes, when you create a text msg on your phone, it will first ask for a number.  You enter 466398, then a blank screen will appear for the msg.  You enter GM40 on the screen and press send.  It worked when I did it here in the states, so I'm hoping everything is the same in Canada.  thanks, Norm

OK, who is an expert on Blackberrys?  I don't have a cell phone, just a Blackberry.  Is there a button on there somewhere that allows you to text message?
