Old Street Scenes

There is a cool thread on yenko.net showing old photos of typical street scenes from the early 1900's to the 70's. Great photos like this:

Here is the thread. CLICK HERE

It's over 20 pages long so grab a coffee and enjoy. Ahh..to be able to go back in time...

Way cool pics!.
Those Wasaga shots sure bring back some great memories!.

I remember when everyone used to wash their cars at the Wasaga beach also up the lake at Sunset Point in Collingwood..   Everyone would just drive their cars right out into the shallow water and wash away...the MOE would be all over this today!.

Looks like an Evening Orchid '65 turning the corner in the first Wasaga pic?.

Here is a street scene from St. John's, Newfoundland. It shows the east end of Water Street, which is the main street in downtown St. John's. It is adjacent to the harbour, and dates back to the 1600s. I estimate the photo was taken in 1966, given the  66 Bel Air wagon & 66 Dodge taxi in the foreground, along with a 66 Chevelle or Beaumont wagon further back behind the Air Canada van. Most notable for us Pontiac fans is the 63 Parisienne wagon at the front of the line, showing the 6 inch wide station wagon rims, one minus its pie pan hubcap.  There is also a 64/5 Ford Falcon, a 65 Dodge sedan, a 64 Chevy Bel Air, a 64 Ford Fairlane, and I think a 64 Pontiac behind the Fairlane, not to mention the Pontiac dealer-sold Vauxhall Super making the left turn. The Royal Stores building in the foreground was replaced in ~1968/69 with a more modern office building that still stands. The shops further back on the left however, which were built in the years following the last Great Fire in 1892, still exist. Photo is courtesy of the City of St. John's Archives.

Am I the only one who gets a heavy feeling in my gut when I look at those old street scenes?
Like a feeling somthing special has been lost.

I agree. I don't think anyone will look back of photos of today and get that nostalgic feeling!

I love looking at old photos of places.
Towns are the best.
We always say a simpler time, but in 20 to 40 years from now, we'll look back and say this was a simpler time.

Had the 66 since about 83 and the 65 since 88.
Both still require a lot of work.

Those Cobourg pics are great and I'm almost positive the '80 Cutlass w/ the blackened grilles behind the 'Cuda in the most recent shot is an old Cobourg co-worker's car!.
Crazier yet is the guy never did pay me for an Oldsie engine I sold him for it!.

Love all the signage and that '62 coming down Main St. has the perfect stance!.
Is that Ewarts or whatever name on the smoke shop the same place that always had the great magazine selection?.   Woody's maybe...still open?.

Cool stuff...more, more!!!
