Although I like the steel wheels and dog caps, I'm having a hard time accepting the comments and bids as genuine?.
Maybe I'm wrong but w/ all the available deals in the market of late, why would this car w/ a 307 and especially considering it's deviations from stock be generating such interest?.

You are probably correct!   I thought it was cool, 'cause it is "rust free" and already painted..  The Ventura's are getting  hard to find, and Nova's are right off the end of scale for price..  The GTO emblems are easily removed...If you find a rust free car for less than that, let me know, as I have been looking all summer..  Regardless of the changes away from stock, 307 or not, to my eye that's really a sweet car Carl!

The last one he had was a yellow one, and it sold for 14,300  I bid to 11,501.00 on this one.. Its a rust free Pontiac, but it will sell for more, than 11,500..   thanks Carl

I like that car a lot. Sure he has badged it in a way we might not all appreciate but look at the condition of that car. Even in the day the 307 never got any respect but I suspect those that scoff never drove one. There is nothing wrong with a 307 at all especially since he has rebuilt it and done some mods. There was a 307 Chevelle at my High School that was done up a bit and it ran pretty strong. Like all sbc very reliable and dependable.

In my opinion the reason this car is getting attention is because people are looking for something different these days, cooklie cutter Novas, Camaros and GTO's are waining, you see it at the cruise ins, it's the different cars that get attention. smile

I want to differ with you on 307 thoughts. My mom bought a 72 Malibu 307 brand new. That thing was a turd. It was slow, and burned oil from day one. It could never make it between changes without adding and my 283 was much quicker. I have never known anyone to have a lot of success in perking up a 307.

And I'm not in a negative mood, it's just how I remember them!!!

Strange how some ran ok.. I know most were turds, but I had one in a 72 Ventura Sprint that was a "runner"  I put a Quad carb on it a Muncie (was a 3 speed) and Hedman headers on it and ran 15.1@93 with 3.08 open It was good on gas and pulled to 5500... Maybe it was a old 283 left laying around at plant!  lol   It was a great car and motor for me...

From Wiki, was never intended as anything but a passenger car motor except in Marine use, produced for 6 years, 68 to 73. Same bore as a 283 and same stroke as a 327, pretty good pedigree.

307

A 307 in³ (5.0 L) version was produced from 1968 through 1973. Engine bore was 3.875 in (98.4 mm) with a 3.25 stroke. The 307 replaced the 283 in Chevrolet cars and produced 200 hp (149 kW) SAE gross at 4600 rpm and 300 ft·lbf (410 N·m) of torque at 2400 rpm in the 1960s. Chevrolet never produced a high-performance version of this motor, though they did produce, for Outboard Marine Corporation, a high-performance marinized 307, rated at 235 and 245 hp (183 kW) SAE gross, depending on year, that shipped with the Corvette/Z-28's cast aluminum valve covers and Rochester QuadraJet carb. Chevy also built other versions of the OMC 307 rated at 210, 215 and 225 hp (168 kW) SAE gross.

Each their own on whatever cars turn their cranks...I know some of the stuff I'd want would certainly look foolish to some!.
I was only commenting as the market of late has such a vast selection of great deals that amount of coin can buy...and we ain't seen nothin' yet!!!
If lucky enough to be in that $ market right now, personally the only troubles I'd be having would be similar to the proverbial kid in the candy store!.

On the 307's, they're just another small block displacement variation that more got a bad rap back in the day because it wasn't the tried and true 283, the mythical 327 or new high cube 350.. There's nothing wrong w/ them and just a 283 bore w/ a 327 stroke...certainly better than the soft cam 305's or other later SB variants!.

I had a '70 Malibu 307/Turbo 350 that I loved and have often wished I still had..
A red w/ white guts bench car that I paid a whole $45 for it w/ 56,000 miles on it!.
It took a headlite to safety and all was well in my world 'til a crazy lady in a '73 Impala creamed the driver's side off it at an intersection..

Heard a lot of how bad the 307s were.
My brother-in-law had late 60s chevelles. Mostly 307.
Never had a problem with them, had one running really sweet.
There was a 307 with Tonawada decals on the valve covers in my friends 69 Pontiac Acadian.
Never had problems with that motor either.
His friend still swapped it out for a 327.

Why all the non-love for 307s?  A friend of mine in high school had one in a Nova and that thing pulled awesome.  Left a lot of people surprised and in the dust.

I was just kidding!   I had a 307 that was really strong  I would buy one, especially if it was in a rust free Ventura II,  and had $4000.00 spent on it (the 307)  steel crank, balanced, 350 HP cam, Edlebrock intake and carb etc......

....so when is it arriving in Clinton ?  Can't wait to get the first road test report. I bet those rear wheels light up real nice.

"taking the trim rings off"? confused.gifblankstare.gif

I hope you will be putting the original Ventura emblems back on.  I don't know what kind of reception this guy got back in Oregon when he went to cruises but I know here in Ontario if you run into any real GTO owners, I doubt they would be too receptive to the way the car is badged now. bleh.gif

Speaking of GTOs, now that Transport Canada has revised the embargo list to no longer exclude 04-06 GTOs, I will have to seriously look into importing one of these. nod.gif

Be careful Carl, I parked the August Feature Car beside a a nice red 69 GTO one night at a cruise here in Toronto and then next thing I know the owner got in and moved it over a few spaces next to a Mopar with this giant chrome thing sticking out of the hood, I guess he didn't want no poor man's GTO next to him. disbelief.gif
