I was in Car Quest, in Clinton today, picking up my 2 AC Delco 160 thermostats.. If any one needs one, I have a xtra. Thanks again Carl1 for number.. I was talking to a friend, I had not seen for a while.. We were remembering a red 66 SS 327-350 NovaSS clone he used to have. He has a 283, 4 speed, red 66 SS now.. He was telling me he found a rare car at Andersons Salvage in Seaforth.. ( the place I found the 68 Pontiac GP, and the complete 455).... The car he found, needs floors, trunk, rockers, quarters, doors, fenders, hood, and roof, and truck lid. He wants to keep it all ORIGINAL LOL He has a rust free body from Texas, and is toying with idea of using it.. Car was tan, and he wants it black.. He says it will never be sold, as long as he is alive..lol The car he found is a 1966 Hardtop L79 Acadian !!!!!!!!!! and how about this, the green L79 Nova sitting uptown where I store my winter car,, is a car he owned 40 years ago...
p.s. He is looking for a place to get black door panels! He said 66 were Acadian only, and 67 were same as Nova.. thanks Carl
Check this for opportunites. http://edmonton.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-classic-cars-1966-Acadians-W0QQAdIdZ69627209 Might be able to build a couple of good cars. Rick

Yes! he want to keep it all original... I told him to take the rust free body to the junk yard.. He only needs to get the floor pans, the trunk pans and part between rear fenders, and quarters, and door skins, and a hood, and a trunk lid, and front fenders, and try to locate a roof (its rotten)the cowl is rotten and the part that hold the VIN I guess he could cut out the part, holding the vin and take a picture? He needs a new interior, and front and rear glass.. I think 3 of his side glass is ok He needs a motor and trans and a rear end, but in the end, the car will be ALL original... I have another friend with 327-275 67 Chevy II HT and he is the same, no Texas body for him! He got a price to do the body @ 20 thousand, but I think hes going to buy all the parts, and do it himself (someday) He's had the car since '69, and still runs tomato cans over his mufflers... but at least these cars will be all original when done...
Sounds like the story of the guy who had the same hammer for 50 years...changed the handle 5 times and the head only twice?.
Seriously though, there's a fine line of acceptability with a project like that and considering '66 Acadian L79 production, the way it's repaired and any documentation of the stages of it's resto may have a large impact on the value of the finished product?.

He built it from a 6cyl car around 1985 He is going to use the perfect Texas body..He's building it for himself.. I was being sarcastic about all original.. How can you replace EVERY panel including door jams and cowl and roof and call it the same car? I understand the problems with cars being mis-represented, but some cars just should not be fixed.. Who wants to spend 20 grand on a body job on a car that has Every panel replaced I mentioned my friend down the street, who will keep patching up the Chevy II, with flat pieces of steel, from Car Quest, and still calling his car original... My old piece of junk Pontiac has EVERY original panel on it.. Never has a patch.. Its not mint, but it sure is original.. I know everyone had a different opinion...I would rather have a rust free Ventura from OREGON than a Acadian/Nova with EVERY panel replaced or fixed from Canada my 2 cents.
I would love to see my old L79 clone again. If anyone in southern Ontario has knowledge of a red 66 SS 327 4 speed with fawn interior, I'd like to know about it. A classic dealer (name escapes me) had it in the Old Car Trader about 10 years ago. I called on it and he was a bit surprised when I rattled off the correct serial number for the car!

Your sarcastic statement was understood hence the original hammer story response..
Just regardless of it being a more solid car as a rebody and the guy building it for himself or not, it's just sad to know another real L79 Acadian is lost..

This is the age old question. When does it stop being the original car?
After paint? After quarters are replaced? When anything new is added ie spark plugs, rad hose? When the trim tag and vin tag are cut out of old metal and reinstalled in new metal?
The Corvette guys believe that a car can still be numbers matching with a restamped block!!!!
Do we care?

I hear you... He could legally register the Nova body and add the Acadian emblems, and call it a clone... I not sure if he would have been better, to keep all the emblems, and vin and paperwork, and junk the body, and just show off the pictures of rotten body, and the stuff off it ... Its a legit car, but junk! If he cloned the texas nova car and didnt have proof of L79, is it a clone? or tribute car ? It looks like the importance of correct, is in ratio, to the resale value. so for the last question, if you have a one of 144 cars, and it is total JUNK, do you re-body it? or replace every square inch of it? and does it matter? the end
Personally, I would likely fix it. I sold a matching numbers 74 Super Duty 455 Trans Am last fall. Total rotten rusty pile. It was so bad, when I bought the car I didn't even bring the body home. I picked up all the rare stuff and left the body A friend told me I was nuts, I should bring it back home which I later did. I still think completely re-done is better than rebodied. I see rebodied as deception.
My two cents...

First you replace from the firewall forward, then you replace from the firewall back, then replace the parts of the firewall that are bad. How is that different than using a good body, other than the number of hours difference in separating the various panels.
I believe that I still have my original car. In the past someone replaced a quarter panel and the parts of the other quarter that had rusted away. I have now replaced a quarter and rebuilt another using an aftermarket panel and parts of 3 other cars. In the past one front fender was replaced and next year I will probably replace both front fenders with parts from 2 other cars. The original engine is under the stairs in my shop.
It has ongoing maintenance to keep it looking and operating as good as I can afford from the standpoint of time and money. I try to make it better every year. The colour is different than it came from the factory. All I can really say is that it is an original big block, 4 speed 2+2 and I love it. It is still an original factory big block, 4 speed but it is not in original condition.
