Why I like Canadian Poncho.

My car appears on the US web site Ultimate GTO. It is clear it is a Canadian car in the captions. I copied below a comment someone posted. It isn't really all that bad but it is when you think about it. Clearly questioning the car thereby showing disrespect and jealousy:

CLICK-> Saddle interior Has viewer comments (message from pa67smith): Beige interior on a blue car?

Then we have the USA eBay "dis" on a 58 Laurentian for sale in Florida, an all time low for a jealous rant :

Pontiac : LAURENTIAN

Q: Hi, Normally Canadian cars from the 50s and 60s are real Bondo buggies, which is why most won't touch them. Could you send me some good close up pics of the problem areas around the front headlights, rear wheel openings, rocker panels and under the front edge of the hood (from the inside). A couple of pics of the undercarriage area would be nice too. The paint job appears rough/orange peely in areas (or do the photos not do it justice?). Does it need a paint job? Door jam areas don't look too good. Is the interior all original or has it been redone? Where did the car originally come from? 35,000 was low mileage in 1980. How much welding has been done, and where? Does it have rust issues now?

We don't have this type of disrespectful members on board here and we are all the better for it thanks to a great bunch of guys and gals. thumbsup.gif

That's the comment, who knows. He asks if it was changed from some other colour I've never heard of.

As far as that 58 comment goes, that is just sad to see someone so uninformed. A good portion of the US has rustier cars than a lot of Canada because of their warm, moist climate. What better climate to kill a car than that?

I guess he expected to see AMC Pierre Cardin polyester fabric?
The interior looks great!

Now you know why I created this site. I can't understand why people get upset with a Canadian Pontiac with Chevy motor but they are ok with later Trans Ams and GTO's with "corporate" small blocks!

Wasn't your car originally another colour?  Maybe he would like that combo better? biggrin

The captions say it was originally Ascot Silver.  It's just that the comment is completely rhetorical.

Unfortunately there will always be people out there with their prejudices, it just goes to show how closed minded they are.  Real auto enthusiasts should be as open minded as possible, and enjoy and appreciate the unique and unusual, as most of our cars are with their relative scarcity.  I mean we could act rather aloof, as a lot of our cars, especially the 427/454 B bodies, are usually one of 20 or less made with that combo, but no one acts all haughty about that on here, but there are a lot of sites where people act like they are some kind of royalty if they have a car that is that rare.  I like the "aw shucks" attitude around here as well.

As to the 58 Laurentian comment, if you substituted "New York" or "Michigan" in place of "Canadian", would anyone regard it as a slight then?  I think he's just typically worried about the problem areas that usually manifest themselves on any northern car, but if the dufus actually read the listing he would have seen that the car has spent most of its life in Florida, so it wouldn't really make any difference where its origin was from.

And as far as interior colours go, just be happy your car isn't yellow with green interior. I don't know how many times friends come over and say.."Oh...you kept the green interior.." evileye

Well, I have the reverse exposure, green with a gold interior.  My car friends from the US always remark: "Boy, you Canadians sure like those earth tones don't you?"

Congrats ! I like your steering wheel (and the rest of the car of course !) I find some of these americans tend to stick to their own breed or clicks, sometimes it's hard to get an answer to my questions on the forum Performance years, I also belong to. Pascal

I don't care what people say anymore! Either from the States or from Canada, aslong as its a classic car, I like it, anything could be worked on.

I get the same remarks too, about my green interior, everything is green inside as well seats, carpet, dash, door panels, etc and my car is black with black vinyl roof. Meanwhile I have a classic car and they don't

But again everyone has their opinions, I remember talking to 4 different people in the same profession about the first car I bought. 2 guys said get rid of the car its a canadian rust bucket. The other 2 guys said its not in that bad of shape, don't listen to anyone, anything can be fixed, if you like the car keep it, and work with it, little by little.

I agree, If its your car, and you like the combination, then anyone elses opinion shouldn't matter, State side or Canadian. I happen to like the look of an original interior, no matter what colour the outside is....Even a green, green ,green combo would be cool, as long as the owner is satisfied with it.

Dumping on someone's car is more a reflection on the person dumping than it is on the car.

Just like nit picking at car shows... there is always something someone doesn't like but it doesn't need to be said loud enough for all to hear.

Ray!   thanks for the link, with all the large photos. I now, have a nice 73SC photo album..   I like the yellow with green interior,(Todd) and I like the Blue w/beige(brown) interior. The interior pic. reminded me, of my 70 Torino Cobra 429... it was Grabber green, with brown buckets, and column shift..  My "new" car is yellow with light tan buckets, and column shift...  and I, being a true Canadian, love earth tonesbiggrinbiggrin
