I can't see the Johnson's going without a big sponsor next year. Warren is to Pro Stock like John Force is to Funny Cars.
I think that is just the tip of the iceberg for GM to start dropping it's funding of car related events.

You can say that again.  The loan they get from Congress is going to have so many conditions on it, it will make your head spin.  One thing for sure, they will have to devote an inordinate amount of funding towards making more fuel efficient vehicles, both hybrid and electric.  "Racin' cars" and their "waste" of fossil fuels will have no place in a politically correct bail out from Congress.

I'll be surprised if GM survives; if it does it will be a different animal. It always surprised me that they (and Ford & Chysler) couldn't see this coming. We've been to this show before - in the 50s, 60s, 70s & 80s. When those crises arose, they downsized  temporarlily, then once the crises passed, reverted to the old bad habits built on cheap oil and no obvious concern for the environment. They just never got the message. Hope it's not too late.

finding a corporate sponsor to pay the bills will be tough. nascar is also already hurting with many teams w/out sponsor $$. it would be a huge blow if the big 3 pulled out of nascar.

I also read the big car magazines are starting to hurt because of the huge cutback (by all car brands) in advertising. I still don't understand how the bailout (bridge loans) is going to make people want to buy from the big 3? The big 3 were already bleeding money before the credit crunch.

Just heard on the news Chrysler is threatening to move 8000 Canadian jobs to the U.S unless the Canadian government gives them 1 billion. Extortion? Still think the U.S "domestics" really give a damn about Canada?

If there is a bailout you can be sure that the US political leaders will be insisting that the jobs which are preserved must be located in the US. No sign that the Canadian govt is preparing to Act either. Much uncertainty ahead.

Pretty sure that free trade will cover that thread. They can't restrict certain imports. Any news on the classic car after market parts companies going down?

Well-I'm definately not pro-bail out but all I can say is these companies and ourselves would not have this current situation if we were buying "domestic" products-
No corporation cares about Canada or any country-The ONLY reason any of the import companies build here is so they are allowed to sell more here

Funny story. I talked to the manager of the Enterprise Rent a Car office in Woodstock a few months a go. He "stocked up" on a bunch of Toyotas for all the managers who come over from Toyota in Japan to visit the new plant. He said just about every time they pick the "big american car" like Chrysler 300's to drive instead!

same is true all over the world-in Europe a Mercedes or Porsche is common so a Caddy or Corvette stands out as desirable. Vise versa here

"grass is always greener on the other side"

You're right about that. I drive a Mercedes and can't believe the looks I get. But in London, UK, the same model is widely used by limo & taxi companies, as well as the police, and would not get a second look among the exotic and not so exotic European makes on the road there.
