'70 JUDGE rusting away by 1975 !!


Here is a picture of my '70 Oshawa Judge in about 1975.
The original owner dropped it by a couple of weeks ago. I was suprised to see so much lower body rust by '75. Apparently the rims and tires were added before he took delivery at London Motor Products in Dec/69.
I am sure curious to see if it is mentioned on the dealer invoice .1975.jpg

People today often forget that back in the late 60's and early 70's no one wanted or kept factory wheels unless you were broke or an old man!  The first thing anyone did to customize their car was to swap wheels and tires so it doesn't surprise me that some had it done at the dealer before they even picked up the car.  Somewhat like today where a lot people buying pick-ups don't like the factory wheel and have new ones installed  before they pick it up - makes it easy to pick up winter wheels at swap meets.

I recently aquired the original bill of sale from the original owner of a previous friend's 72 Chevelle SS454 M22.

The original owner was telliing me a storey that during the first weekend of owning that car he threw away the factory five spoke SS wheels in favour of Cragar SS, removed the exhaust manifolds in favour of headers and changed the intake to aluminum along with a holley carb removing all the smog equipment-the next weekend he put a hurst shifter in it !

 Another guy I know bought new a 66 Beaumont SD396 4-speed says he negotiated the price so much the dealer sold him the car without the wheels-they picked the car up with old junker tires-they were driving a pick up truck unloaded the junk tires to put on the car and then drove around to the parts department to load the 427/425 crate engine they ordered to put in the car !! needless to say the original 396/360 hp is long missing from that one !

Many years ago, I bought a "time machine",  and went back,  and bought several new muscle cars..     I took them  out and stored them in farmers brans...            I was so excited ,that when I came back, I had forgot where I stored them!   What a dummy...frustrated.gif

I guess, but then we'd be 60 now ! We can still buy them and even butcher them if we want we just can't order them!

 Funny I had my 67 SD396 Beumont and a girl's dad had a 66 Malibu SS 327 4-speed, someone said too bad the Beaumont isn't a stick-I said I didn't get a chance to order it ! hmmm small block stick, big block auto-ordered, not ordered

It was about the normal amount of rust for a 5 yr. old car that was probably winter driven. I well remember having to patch floors in 5 year old cars to get a Safety Check. Does anyone remember how many auto body shops were around then?
