Another 67SD 396 for sale

http://www.theirongarage.com/project67Beaumont.php

Just noticed this car online this morning.  Wish I was home and had time to investigate.  Maybe it will be around in April when I have time to look.

at $49,900 it'll be around-Electric Garage had this car listed on e-bay a couple years ago, had no louvers at the time, I believe it was also listed in the Old car auto trader just before then by a previous owner-the e-bay listing never showed a 736 or 738 vin and never promoted GM Canada documents-but at $49,900 I would hope its real.

Is that chrome strip on the trunk for real ?  I've never seen one there before. AND  the chrome on the rear panel is painted black. This is the 3rd or 4th time I see this. My original '67 SD did not have paint. This must be an owners preference thing, right? It also has a wood grain instrument panel. Was that an option you could order at the time or a change made after puchase ?

Leo, I would guess that the wood grain dash is from a GTO. The chrome strip on the trunk lid must have been an add on by the owner. As well, it appears to have the wrong wheel opening moldings and quite posibly the wrong rocker chrome. All criticism aside, it is a pretty car! I love black cars!

The wheel well moulding looks thicker, maybe its just how the repro fits, or maybe 66 is different? That trunk lid chrome is a chevelle trim peice i think. The tailight bezels arent painted silver inside.

Every 67sd i've seen has had black painted inserts (on the grooved portion) on the rear panel chrome.

ak

p.s. black painted cars look very nice!

Hi AK.  I also noticed that the tail light bezels were chrome, not painted. Are you sure about the rear panel chrome having paint in that groove area ? My current car does not have paint there and I took out some old black and white pics. of my 1st '67 SD. The shots are pretty far away but I can't see paint on that one either. It's funny but I've seen a lot of '67 SD's over the years and I can't remember seeing paint there.
PS - I can't remember not seeing it either.

Hi Carl. The pic you sent was a bit fuzzy in that area. If you say that it is painted so be it. It looks like a shadow to me on the right side, top & bottom and no paint on the left side. Now we have 2 cars with paint and 2 without. Does anyone know for sure if it should or should not have paint ?

Here is a picture from 2005 of my car prior to restoration. I don't think it ever had paint in the trim. I have also seen other cars with the "BEAUMONT" letter painted black instead of white. The paint in the tail light bezels had peeled off over the years.

Hi 67SD396. The chrome on the rear panel of both my 67 SD's is just like yours, no paint. I'm not saying that it's right, just saying that's how it is.

One more thing about that 67SD396 for sale. (don't get me wrong, I think it's a beautiful car) It has a tach mounted on the column. Mine had the in dash tach, and if this one has a GTO instrument panel I'm sure the GTO came with a tach from the factory. I've seen pictures of many 67 SD instrument panels and the tach is not always located in the same place. Mine is extreme right. (but I've also seen clocks there)My clock is in the console.

Well what do you know? I've never seen one without the black painted insert until that gold pic! but then if the paint peeled off the tailight bezels it could certainly come off the other trim? ...my emblems have never been re-painted, the rear panel one i touched up the black, but it was black to begin with, i have also touched up the silver/black on the grille... carls convertible pic is black... i wonder whatsup? there's an original owner sports option car in winnipeg, when i see him out in the summer i'll have to look at his car and ask him too?

if you ordered the tach, its in the dash in the clock location, clock in the console...

I've had four 67 SD396 cars all 738 vin three of them did not have paint on the rear trim-one of those came from the original owner parked since 1982, the one that had paint was my deepwater blue one that came from Winnipeg. I looked at an original paint original owner 67 SD396 this summer no paint on the rear trim. The 67 SD that was here from B.C had paint on the rear trim but no paint on the quarter panel louvers-the guy who bought it last owned one new and said both are wrong.

Hi 427 Carl. I must be missing something ???   Your note said here's the "real deal" on tachs., but nothing more was said, and the pic. of your instrument panel was too far away to see what was there. I would like to know what the "real deal" is with the tach. and the paint /no paint on the trim on the rear panel. Is mine correct - if not I want to make it correct.
Leo

PS - About re-chroming my spear emblems. I've been told to be careful who does the re-chrome, because the top of the spears are supposed to have a butler finish (dull finish) so I should make sure they know this and can do it.

What I meant was, that the tach in my car was ordered, and original thus the "real deal" I will try to show a better picture..  I could not see, in my own pictures what  the deal was on the paint, UNTIL I saw the gold car photo...It looks like the whole panel is painted body color and the trim goes over that... My car was painted in 1979 and I never thought of it being not original    sorry I could not be more helpfull
