I think the reason 61 and 65 are my favourites is because these were family cars. My cousin also had a red 65 Custom Sport with white guts that I still dream about. It was bought for him by my uncle so he got a 283 in it but even as a boy I wondered what that car would have been like with a 409. I loved it just the same , but a red 409. OH YA!

To be honest my bias is for exactly the same reason.  its all about which cars your butt sat in when you were a young imrpressable kid

Ditto. 16 years old, bought a 65 Canso SD. 17, traded it for a 66 GP.

Today I own a 65 Canso SD and want to find a 66 GP. First impressions.

What I really like about the '65s is the headlight treatment, very similar to the '63s. I find that very attractive.

The '67 Grande Parisiennes two door coupes are my favourite B body. I love the space age Jetsons front end of them, and also like the taillights a lot. Of course, make mine a stick shift very mild custom (Root Beer Velvet paint, parchment vinyl, 15" Torque Thursts, yes I dream in colour!)

And the roof. Really like that concave rear window! smile

Although I'm a believer that '65 Canadian Pontiacs were the last vehicles shipped with W-engines, personally I'm yet to be satisfied w/ actual facts confirming '65 Cdn. Pontiac B-Body production included any w/ Mk1V engines or not..

I'm w/ Ray on loving the '61 and '65 cars as they're my favourite Cdn. Ponchos too!.
But sorry fella, you're on your own w/ the love for going to the ballet..
Personall opinion perhaps but men prancing around in leotards...nothing I want to see thanks!.

Nutcracker , you fruitcake... Sugarplum Fairy and Snow Queen are the principle dances, very few if any men in tights.

I'll stick with the '67 Grande Parisiennes, but where did all this ballet stuff come from?

Reminds me of a Buddy Hickerson cartoon I once saw of a cop directing traffic in a Tutu.

The caption read:

" He went by the book. Too bad the book was 'The Joy of Ballet'!"

There! Is this thread officially derailed enough yet?  smile

Sorry Ray but 'very few' would be a few too many for me!.
Naming dances after fairys and queens also calling it the nutcracker all sound like subtle clues of what's really up!.

It is amazing where these threads end up sometimes.

All I can say on 65 396's is we'd be very happy to learn more but we're comfortable in our little bubble of knowledge for the time being because it makes us happy.

(OK I'm speaking for myself as that came out a lot weirder than anybody else on this thread would be willing to support)

I tried putting it back  on the tracks but it was too little, too late, and too weird.

I can verify the 396 was available in 1965 Pontiacs. This is a true story as best as I can remember (as I am almost 60).
When I was 13 (1964) my Dad and I went to a leasing yard in Weston Ont. (might have been Brown's ?) to pick out a new car for work and our family. One of the perks of his job included a car and its fuel. His employer allowed for certain models and my mom had said to me before we left to pick out something "sporty" as your dad always gets a plain car. So when we get to this yard in our plain 1963 Biscayne more door (green and green cloth interior) to trade in there is probably a hundred or so cars to look at. I said to my dad that I would find us a good one, he agreed and off I go. Well about 5 rows in I spot a 1965 Custom Sport 2 door hardtop, red with a white bucket seat interior and console. Now I am right into cars and have read just about everything printed around this time and up goes the hood. There it is, biggest engine I have ever seen, huge valve covers, all of 396 inches! I hail the old man "this is it". Well he and the sales dude come over and I am surprised as my dad agrees this is one sharp looking car! He tells the salesman to do the paper work, change out the plates,we're taking it. After about an hour we're all prepped, paperwork done and gassed up and were heading for home in Clarkson. We head back for home and finally get onto the Queen E and my dad says this car is a lot more responsive than the 283 was in his Biscayne. I said lets open her up and he floors it, down into passing gear (powerglide) and back into drive in a hell of a hurry about 90. After slowing back down to about 70 I could tell by the look on his face he knew there was a lot of motor under the hood. We arrive at home in the subdivision and my mom comes out and remarks to my dad "Bill"what a great looking car! Well for about a week the hood on that car was up at least 20 times a day as I had friends I never knew existed (all car nuts) showing off this beast. My popularity was at an all time high! But it was soon to be short lived however. This car had a real thirst for fuel and my dad's boss said that if he wanted to keep the guzzler he would have to pay the difference between what he was allowed and what it used. So after about 3 weeks my popularity with my new found friends returned to normal and my dad was driving his new 1965 blue 4 door Biscayne with a 283 powerglide.

Wow, a new development or what!

History is being made.

This has pretty big implications.

A real new 396 right off the lot in a '65 Canadian Poncho.

I'm glued to my seat!  smile
