The following information was "borrowed" from carcraft.com. This might help.
Rick
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I recently put a small block 400 with Super T10 transmission in my 1981 El Camino. I used the FW 101, 14", 168 tooth flywheel and a Ram 11" clutch part #88764 from Summit. The Super T10 and Muncie car transmissions have a 4 11/16" (4.68) diameter front bearing retainer, and the 3899 621 aluminum bellhousing is the only one available to cover the larger flywheel and clutch and fit the smaller retainer. The problem is GM only cast about 100,000 of these 621 bellhousings back in the 60's, so they are very rare and expensive today ($300+ on eBAY).

However, GM cast literally millions of the 460 486 bellhousing to cover the larger flywheel and clutch in 1970's light trucks, both 6 and 8 cylinder. The problem is the Muncie SM 465 truck transmissions had a 5 1/8" (5.125) front bearing retainer, so you can't use it with the smaller car transmissions.

Luckily, a 4 11/16" x 5 1/8" bushing is available from Novak part # BR-4 (about $40) at www.novak-adapt.com or 877-602-1500.

I bought one of the adapter rings, and used the truck bellhousing, which cost $25 at my local salvage yard, where they use the truck bellhousings for door stops.

The 486 dust cover is GM part #340 254.

i'm converting that green '69 impala to 4spd steve.
you need the pedals, linkage and frame bracket plus the obvious drivetrain pieces. '65-'70 linkage is the same, '69-'70 pedals are slightly different. frame bracket can be made and bolted to the frame.

From the left, Nova/Acadian, 168 tooth (#464697), 153 tooth (#3840383), 55 to 57 steel, all 4 5/8" center.

Carl, if you grab that Lakewood for the Nova on Craigslist (http://newlondon.craigslist.org/pts/995528557.html), I'll trade you for the 697 shown above.

Sorry Carl, didn't know where that Nova bell was located, wasn't trying to take advantage. I'm off to Phoenix next week for a month, if you haven't got one by the time I'm back at the beginning of March I'll cut you a good deal on mine, say a hundred bucks. I'd do it now but I don't have the time to package and ship it.

RE: Transmission Engine Bell housing

I had a PM from a fellow out West, who said, he would "give me" his 621 Bell , if he could buy the one from KANSO (WAYNE)   Wow    I cant reveal his identity, but he did get stuck with a corvette as a rental car, at B-J... He also has a couple of shifters...
