stephenzone's 'new' '70 convert

Looks like you've been a busy guy and will be for a while. Good for you. I think your stage is probably the most fun because you got some many things to think about whereas when you're done it's what do I do now, aw they are all good stages. Good luck.  Just saw your pictures.  What is the price for muskrat fur now!  It's interesting I bought my first car in 1970 from selling muskrat hides.  Made $400 in a month after school.  That wasn't bad money then.  How time flies.

Clint, whatever happened to Larry Kosek's car?  For the rest of the guys, that is one of the four 454 verts.  It came out of Lethbridge originally I believe.  It is even "red" (carousel redwink) like Steve's car.  It was the cover car on Smoke Signals a few years ago, I will have to see if I can find that issue.

BTW 350 2bbl was rated at 250hp.

You may remember that he had it for sale in Smoke Signals back in 2003 or 04. It was as you say, a 454 car out of Alberta. I was talking to him about it as I was interested, but I think it got sold to another buyer in the US not long after it appeared in the magazine article.

All in all the frame looks pretty good from underneath including the underside. so far i need a hood (missing), gas tank (missing) and the big honking center of the grill (chrome is peeling). gas pedal linkage is not in the firewall. i'm sure the list will get bigger. i'm happy that most of the extra stuff is still here. don't like the non-original radio

jmont64 was that a muskrat?. sure crapped over everything.

That was probably just a regualar rat. At that stage they look a little more alike. The muskrats stay a little closer to the water. If its not mice it's rats.

Great shots, it's always exciting to get any old car, regardless of it's condition isn't it! Glad you got the fenders with it.

Was the car a previous restoration beginning?

Good stuff Steve. I'm excited to see the different stages of restoration on this one! As far as gas tanks go, new ones are pretty hard to find and when you do find them they are big bucks. You might have better luck getting one from a southern Impala.

its been off the road since 83 (what the tag says) motors gone, transmission is in the trunk. inner door skins have red carpet, don't match. pretty well everything else is here and sorted. hard call.

thanxs on the tank. gonna make a list before i start buying haphazardly.

Larry Kosek's car was the cover car on Smoke Signals, and was also in either June 2002 High Perf Pontiac.   He was trying to sell it for $18K US, and finally took $16K US, it went to a fellow named Howie Long (not the x football player) in the Dakota's.  Larry saw it a couple years later, it was painted black.  As Mark indicates, it was originally special order Carousel Red (which is kind of orange), but painted red sometime later in it's life.  Where the paint was chipped you could see the Carousel Red under it.  It was a fully loaded car, only missing a/c.

The 4  454 rags are accounted for, Larry had the red one (he bought in Wetaskiwin AB, and it was originally from the Edmonton area.  Big John Preikschat remembers the car from the early 70's), plus Larry had another rusty one he bought in Listowel ON, and sold it to a guy in Chicago.  The third is sitting at Aerotique in Gibbons AB (I have the engine from it), and the 4th is in Penticton.  The same family has owned the Penticton car since the early 70's, but the engine doesn't match.  I think when he had the engine rebuilt the engine shop swapped blocks on him.  He had no idea, and I didn't have the heart to tell him.

Here is a photo of the one in Penticton. I took this in 1990 or 91. I haven't seen the car for a few years, but it's good to know it's still here.

Steve I checked out your homepage and it looks like you make things happen,i am glad your excited about the car and will see if I can get anymore info from the owner. Is the official production 245 units?

Could you e-mail a copy of the GM paperwork when you get it.

Buying this car has jogged my memory and I have been thinking about a couple more Canadian Pontiacs I know that are sitting around.I am pretty sure one is a 69 or 70 2+2 convertible.

Thanks
Ian

While keeping an eye on this thread, I remembered this other car a while back that was shown on this site. Since Steve has started an early itch on the forthcoming months of warm weather and Converts, I decided to check on this car to see if it was for sale. I won't release the details as of yet but I will post a pic of the cowl tag! Any guesses..........

Looks to me like a 70 2+2 convert but it's a small block because it's a TH350.

How'd I do?
