As part of rebuilding my steering column (needed to replace turn signal switch and wanted to remove shift linkage since I've gone to floor shift, plus I wanted to paint it and refurbish it in general, new bearing, new dash seal, etc.), I decided that the steering column inside the engine compartment looked unfinished. So I built a sleeve, cut to length and trimmed to fit, that the steering column mast jacket could just slide into a ways (2" o.d. on the mast jacket so 2" i.d. on the sleeve). Found a short piece of exhaust pipe that worked perfect as raw material for the sleeve, free from local muffler shop, and as I was working with it, guess what I discovered? The piece had place of origin stamped on it.
Pictures below. The first one is of the firewall to the steering box. See where there's an orangish highlight (from my underhood trouble light) on the picture? That's what the second picture is a closeup of.
Kind of a nice custom touch to my Canadian Poncho, eh?
