I have a very informative final page to add as soon as at least two guys have something nice to say about Chevy.

Good article,
I'll be needing it this year to strip my body...that is now sitting on an excellent CHEVY chassis!

I did a speed read on it and never saw one thing mentioned that is important. I was taught to put masking tape over all the gaps (door gaps, trunk lid gaps etc.) to keep the stripper from falling in the cracks. If it does, it's very hard to get cleaned out of there and will ruin the new paint when it's applied.

I once outran the cops with a 55 Chevy 6-cyl. Powerglide.

I also once outran the cops with a 66 Chevelle SS396 4-speed.

Chevrolet built affordable power and handling!

Does that count as two???!!!

Dave

OK, here's another: If my 56 Canadian Pontiac wasn't really a Chevy under the skin, I could never afford to rebuild it.

On thing the article suggests is to plastic tarp the stripped body to prevent rust.
Sorry...Not likely to work very well in a Costco tent. no

If you can't shoot some epoxy on it right away after a section hads been scoured clean. Use some Phosphoric acid (Eastwoods "Fast Etch") with a Scotchbrite pad on the panels. Wipe off the excess. It will create a a boundary layer that will protect the panel from rust for a good period of time, and allow the epoxy to bite better when the time comes for the primer to finally go on.

Seeing this reminded me of the time that transmission cr@pped out at Yonge and Bloor. Lost forward gears while doing the stoplight drags. Had to back the car home to Asiancourt. Outran the cops that saw me at Danforth and Main in reverse. 68 Chevelle 307/powerglide.

what a mess, what stops a chemical reaction when repainting, and traces of residue ? just rinsing?

Good question smile I stripped my 72 Chevelle, and 70 Monte,  It was messy, but I think it dryed up pretty well, after I wiped it off  The Monte is still, on the next street over, and the paint is gorgeous after 7 years...  It was awkfull messy no    I wonder if media blasting, is any better.  What do you think Bob?..

Funny you should ask, Carl.

We used four bags of Potassium Sulphate. I was reasonably happy with the results, but can't offer an opinion on how it would have worked on a metal car.

It was messy, as you can see in the photo, so having a place to do it may be problematic. The product claims to be biodegradeble, however.
