Envy is unecessary, Carl. We all have stuff, but in the bigger scheme of things, stuff doesn't matter. wink

The fellow who wired my garage is a member on here but only comes on every couple of months. I'll email him and have him come on and answer your questions.

Thanks, Todd. The questions I would ask him include:

- is a 24" deep trench deep enough between house and garage?

- is 4" of gravel at the bottom an acceptable base when using conduit?

- is 1.5" PVC conduit acceptable?

- how much distance between the conduit and a run of red warning tape is recommended? Or, to say it another way, if the conduit is 20" deep (on top of the base), how deep should the warning tape be?

- what is the recommended amperage of a garage sub-panel when running flourescent lighting, a variety of shop tools, a beer fridge, and 220v for welding? 60 Amp? 100 Amp?

- what is the required wire gauge for the run from house to garage...approximately 40 feet through house basement and 100 feet across yard?

I'll have a few more questions, but let's start there. nod.gif

I should have asked this first.

- under the new provincial inspection regime, can I do any work in advance of obtaining a permit, like hanging boxes and running wire in the walls/ceilings?

- when trenching is involved, does the inspector have to see before backfilling, then return for final building electrical inspection? In other words, two visits by the inspector?

Thanks.
