RE: Best Sounding Muffler

Magnaflow makes a bolt in kit or just the mufflers. All stainless. really nice sound, deep but no drone. I have run several flowmasters, and the 40's are nice, but a bit loud in a lot of aplications. If no headers, and 2-2 1/2 pipe, the flowmasters are ok. With headers I would recomend the magnaflows. The fit and finish on the kit is great. You can install the whole kit in a couple hours by yourself. Probably under $700 with x pipe.
We sell lots of these out west.

These are the ones I'll be going with.
Magnaflow SS oval. 18" 2.5" offset inlet, 2.5" center outlet.

I run Cherry Bomb turbo mufflers on my 69 Parisienne. Sounds great. I'm going to replace the stock style mufflers on my 68 Caprice with two of these. The rest of the exhaust was brand new just before I got the car.

They are located in Centreville Michigan. They shipped by UPS and to be honest I don't recall the final price. I'd have to dig up the invoice. I had a bunch of money on my Paypal (you can pay by Paypal online) from selling on Ebay so I wasn't too concerned. I think I spent about 600 bucks by the time I was done. Now the dollar was near par at the time too. When I talked to the owner he was pondering the idea of having a distribution center in Canada (his mufflers are actually made here in Ontario!). Call him and see if he has done that.CLICK HERE for their website. Obviously things will be much cheaper if you just want the mufflers. There was nothing available here in Canada and I didn't want a muffler shop doing the work so my choices were slim. In hindsight if I were doing it again I'd cave and buy the mufflers and get a good custom exhaust shop to do the work.

I bought a Magnaflow kit for my 2001 2500 HD W/6.0L   It sounds great and does not DRONE...  Sounds real cool with RV trailer hooked on, as the sound bounces back off the trailer   lol

I used to run dynomax Super turbo's, liked them but alittle quiet. I switched to Flowmaster 50 series, too loud. I know run magna flows. They sound good, alittle loud when pushin on it but that could be the 3'' exhaust too.

Here is a sound at idle:

I am running the "Ram Air Restorations" x-pipe 2-1/2" exhaust system. I like the sound, however I have never hear the car driving away as I am the only one who has driven the car. Won't even let the wife drive the car.

Well I cannot say for sure yet, but after lots of research, I settled on Pypes for my (to be installed) 496:

http://home.earthlink.net/~56pontiac/data/Pypes.mp3

Seemed to me to be a good blend of not-so-loud-as-to-attract-the-gendarmes and up-your-nose-you-yeah-its-a-hemi-punks

Dave

P.S. Car in the recording obviously has a small-block, I am expecting lower register sound from my big block.

P.P.S. I bought this complete system before Pypes started selling inferior tube bending.

I still love my Waldrons mufflers. If you go to their website you can listen to different cars with them installed.

You haven't seen my wife try and back up her Tahoe. She parks in the driveway almost sideways all the time. Sometimes she almost parks on the lawn. She has done this for years and years and I laugh like hell every time. I sometimes think that she is now doing it on purpose to get a rise out of me.laughing.giflaughing.giflaughing.gif

My father-in-law put a flowmaster cat back kit on his truck.
It sounds pretty good for a stock V8.
I've got a hi-flow y and cat back kit on my Maxima with Magnafloww mufflers. Sounds good (still it's a v6).
I find the Maxima setup drones a bit on the hi-way. They told me to get a resonator for better sound controll.
The 66 will be getting FlowMasters. Love the sound of Flowmasters
