SIDE TRIM ON 66 ACADIAN

I had someone tell me that there is supposed to be black inside the chrome piece that runs across the bodyline of the 66 Acadian. I can't be for sure, but it looks like there is no black in the pictures of my car from the late 60's that I have and it doesn't look like it in the brochure. Any opinions? Thanks

My Dad had a 66 acadian canso back in the late 70's and early 80's 4-door sedan 6 cylinder auto, no black in the side trim, not sure that that was for sure original but no reason to mess with a 4-door when it was 10-15 years old.

Bill I had three sets of this trim at one time, my car was an SD and had the black strip (when restoring my car I didn't like the look of it and filled the holes to leave it off-personal preferrence). There are two different front spears, one has more slope than the other, looks like GM changed this after December 1965 but the part # on the rear is the same, this became known to me when I sold a set to a fellow in the Seaforth/Goderich area and I mixed up a set (had to send him the correct spear for the match). All 3 sets I had came with the black strip which is like a narrow strip of tape (can be peeled off), 2 of the 3 cars this trim came off of were SD's, one was a Canso may not of had the black will check the master catologue to clarify. Hope this helps?

A further update on the side trim, the master catologue shows the following part #'s for both a Canso Hardtop
MOULDING UNIT FRONT FENDER PEAK 5728514-R 5728515-L

MOULDING UNIT FRONT DOOR OUTER PANEL-PEAK 5728558-R 5728559-L

MOULDING UNIT REAR FENDER OUTER PANEL- PEAK 5728566-R 5728567-L

The part #'s for a Canso SD are different
MOULDING UNIT FRONT FENDER PEAK 5728516-R 5728517-L

MOULDING UNIT FRONT DOOR OUTER PANEL-PEAK 5728562-R 5728563-L

MOULDING UNIT REAR FENDER OUTER PANEL- PEAK 5728568-R 5728569-L

Bill you should be able to tell by this using your part #'s whether or not your car had black in the centre or not. I hope this update confirms your question.

I'm restoring my 67 canso and fender/door/quarter I had this type of trim. I've been wondering about it as well I don't see many around with this trim. I'm pretty sure my car isn't SD though so maybe it was a package option?

The trim being discussed was on the upper beltline on 1966 Canso

My SD had the black paint in the middle of the trim. I had it all polished out. IMG_0582.JPG

I didn't think much about this as I have a 1966 Beaumont Custom, but this comment got me thinking. Are the front spears and this change the same on Beaumont Customs? My car has low miles but the passenger spear has a crease in the tip. When a CP member was parting out a car I purchased the one  front spear from him to replace it. I was disappointed (and a little confused) when it arrived as it has a different shape, but obviously came of another 1966 Custom! Anybody else have info on this?
