RE: 62 Catalina (?) 2 door post , 4 speed car! Kelowna

Needs a 409.

I am the first to admit I don't know all that much about US Pontiacs of this era but he says original inline 6. I don't think Pontiacs came with 6's in the US. Can anyone clear that up?

You are correct. 389 is where they started south of the border.

That is a 62 Pontiac Strato Chief to the best of my knowledge. It is pretty rare but not as rare as the owner claims it to be. Why in the world he would associate it with a US built Super Duty car is beyond me. I don't know why owners of Canadian Pontiacs would want to turn a unique Canadian car it into an American Pontiac. That car needs a 327 or a 409-although no 409s in Cdn Pontiacs till 63 eh! Let the Americans keep their overweight, wide track cars to themselves.

Any way you slice it, nice car to have. If it's all in order in relatively good shape that would make a fun car to own. Can't say enough how much i like the style of these. And if i was fortunate enough to own it i have to say my choice would be some big block power. Just my preference, i'd probably take that 421 of his for it.

It was hard to tell what model it was when I read the ad. I assumed Cat but now we know it's even better! I better move this thread to "Canadian Pontiacs For Sale"!

As noted it is a 62 Strato Chief. Has the same side chrome as the 62 US Catalina, sitting on X frame Chevy chassis. It's a 261 standard, but if I remember correctly from other ads that I've seen for this car it has a later model Saginaw 4 speed in it.

Lots of potential. Value depends on condition in and out. I tried to buy a very nice, rust free original maroon 2 SC dr post, 6 cyl, 3 spd manual at an auction in Sept 2007. The successful bidder paid over $9K after I dropped out. Had I gotten it, I would have only swapped out the powertrain for a 327 4 spd. It was that nice.

This car in BC looks like it has a bucket seat or at least a Parisienne interior in it.

Am I missing somthing here ? am I not looking at a rusty restorable two door post six cylinder car for $5000 ! I'm with Canso-overpriced-with the visible rust on the body/grey primer even though its in B.C. I'll bet its no where near as solid as your 69 Todd.

The one at Fawcett's auction for $9000 sounded like a ton of money in 1997 but was a far better deal than this
