Was there a truck version of the 409 (like the tall deck 427's) ?  If so, how did it differ from the car engine?

Truck heads lower compression ratio but engines look the same from outside. If you were going to build it probably would be working on the heads anyway, they can make 9 1/2  to 10 to 1 compression ratio, good for pump gas and street. It would be ashame to grab that just for the 409, look at the chrome shine on that grille.

That thing is well worth the $1500. The water pump is different on the truck 409's also. If the cab isn't rusty it's worth the money alone. Then all that heavy metal for scrap, bonus.
Love that grill eh, Ray?

The 409 heads are flat, no combustion chamber. The truck block has the notch at the top of the cylinder to lower compression.

Externally these engines are the same as passenger car motors so car waterpumps etc will fit..
As above, they're lower compression because of the notches but some hi-po W-Motor builders actually prefer these truck engines when running blowers because of the lower compression..
Like I've mentioned here before, I have one I yanked out of a '65 dumptruck years ago to put in my '49 Stude pickup.. They're good engines w/ great torque and a cheap way to get the 409 WOW factor when you open the hood!.
If you could get the Firetruck for a G-note, you'd probably get your dough back selling the nice cab and trim to a 1/2 ton guy plus the rest of the stuff to others and keep the W-Motor!
