That would be fun Vern.

By the end of the day tomorrow I should be able to boat the 3.5 miles to highway 205 that runs from 75 to Rosenort. We did most of it today but the mile roads are still a little bit of an obstacle. A bit more water and it should be clear sailing (so to speak!)

Carl, I just wanted to add my 2 cents. This is the first thread I check every time I sign on here, and like others have said, don't feel that you're burdening anyone by posting your thoughts and fears over this situation. You've had lots of help, offers of help, and from those of us farther away, our good wishes, and desire to help.
All I can offer is to send you some really absorbant paper towels, and a couple of plastic palm trees for your new island. biggrin

It really sounds like you've done all you can to prepare, and to keep your family safe and mentally sound.

If you need us to keep you sane, then keep posting. I'll share what sanity I have left! biggrin

You've been a good, helpful guy over the years in this hobby, and those things do return!
Just wanted you to know that!
Keep safe and dry!

John

I have not confirmed this yet but I believe that the Office of the Fire Commissioner as well as possibly RCMP came a few hours ago and removed the neighbour who lives southwest of us in this house---

Interesting situation. She moved in many years ago and gets along with nobody in the area. She wants nothing to do with any of us. She has tried to get her neighbour just west of her in trouble for not feeding his pets. His cat attacked her big ferocious dog (in her eyes) and it had to go have a repair made at the vet. So on and so on........

Her she was sitting, all alone in this home. No land line, no cell phone, no internet, no boat, no generator, nothing. Just sitting there and going to wait it out, no backup plan in case of emergency. The authorities got wind of it and I will likely know in the next day or two but chances are she will have agreed to go or been arrested and led away in cuffs.

It just makes me shake my head, what could she have been thinking?

People don't allways think this stuff through. You on the other hand have done your homework, asked for help. And have done all you can mentally and physically to be prepared. Those who do not in the path of a flood will not be able to cope with the change in lifestyle that happens. When I drove out to St Adolph on Sunday I felt very uneasy everyone in the truck felt it. My wife looked at me and said " Looks like 97 ?". I replied a little too close, not quite yet but close. Carl My thoughts are with you. It will go down and life will return to normal. As Vern Said if you want some company Let us know and we can spend some time.
It seems its backing up from the floodway. My Brother-in-law Phone Monday night He is part of EMO in St Pierre. They evact a few out of homes there. all the best Carl.

2qwik2c..That's an awsome idea! We'll have to wait it out with Carl before we can move in. But when the time comes The more we can do for him quickly the better to bring life back to normal. So who's up for the clean up day? I'm in for sure 2qwik. Whenever its time I'll be there.

So is the town of Morris also an island that has a dyke around it? It looks like they just fill in the roads. I don't understand the people that have their machinery sitting in flood waters. You think with the time they had they would of moved it to high ground.

Morris has a full ring dike that just has to be filled in where the highways come into town. So far for all the diked towns that has always worked fine. Our soil here is extremely heavy so it packs well and is secure.

I too marvel at those who don't prepare. Again today our neighbour and I were talking about those who are in denial when a flood is forecast.  I don't understand that thinking. If I would have done all this prep and there was no flood, what would have been the harm in it?

I am must watching a 9 minute video that CTV did from a chopper today, Morris to Winnipeg. More on that in a little bit.

Ok, this CTV video can help put our location into perspective.

At about 1:57 on the video you see a large white iceberg. That is the town of Morris lagoon. If you look over top of about the left 1/4 of the lagoon way off in the distance @ the horizon pretty well you can see a smaller grove of trees and then a larger grove. I am sitting in that larger grove typing!

It shows again at around the 2:29 mark (top right of the screen), top centre at about 2:45, and is clearest about 3:00 to 3:10 when they switch views.

Nice lake, huh?

I hope this page works. The video title is "Aerial tour Morris to Winnipeg"

I just checked this morning (it's the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning is go out and look on the measuring stick) and it's almost like a small victory. We've "only" risen 8" in the last 40 hours or so. That is getting a little bit more bearable anyway. We were doing that in less than 24 hours for a while there.

Good news Carl. So how deep is the water now? I know the cars are covered, but is that a low area or average. Do they ever mention how much water is there and it would fill how many swimming pools.

The water on the general part of the land (fields, etc where it has not been raised) would be around 5 feet I would guess. The roads within a mile of our house likely have 2 feet or a bit more on them. I think I would likely be able to boat down the road now. I don't because I'm better off to boat in the fields where I know there are no posts etc to hit.

My gut feeling is we are going to come within a foot of the record set in 1997. We'll see.

I was just going to go outside and take some pictures from the roof but I see I have company. Don't want to disturb them. Pictures can wait!

If I was running low on food right now, I'd be planning supper....

Someone please pinch me and wake me up from this nightmare. Our predicted crest has been increased once again and the crest is a day later again.

This can not continue or I'm sunk.

I thought I'd show you all how I spend most of my day right now.

Sit at the computer, ear piece on for the phone yakking with neighbours and friends, constantly checking the news stories on the computer, getting and sending emails as well as hunting for the newest flood reports from the province. To my left is the latest flood sheet for the day showing what the Red is doing from the US border to Winnipeg.

Pretty exciting stuff, huh?

Smart man, looks like you got the swim trunks on...just in case! I watched the start of the National on CBC last night and i would think the story would warrant being near the top. Not even the news about the little girl missing from our area was tops. What was? Mulroney and Shrieber...get real. Silly question, but what about the basement...or isn't there one? Hang in there Carl!

Basement is here and full to the brim with old car parts and old parts books!

As long as the levels don't pass the 1997 level then the sewer pump easily handles the seepage into the septic tank. Problem is, they keep bumping up the prediction.

And I couldn't find my shorts this morning and the trunks happened to be handy. Besides, except for the picture, who's ever gonna see me???!!! It's not like someone will pull up and I won't hear them!

I thought it strange that on one newscast I watched I saw the flood ahead of that little girl missing. As long as we all act mature here nobody's life is in danger but it sure seems like hers could be. We are only worried about material things here. Human life is a lot more important than all the possessions.

Got a wonderful aerial shot of our place from about 5 miles south (taken from about a mile south of Morris). We are right at the top of the pic at the arrow.

Morris in the foreground. To put it into perspective, the distance from our place to the Morris dike is just under 4 miles. It doesn't look that far in the picture though.
