Getting in the spirit for the playoffs

Looks like people are pretty excited in Vancouver tonight. Don't know where they found all those brooms. Not a die hard Canuck fan but I do appreciate good hockey whoever is playing. Happy for them as that overtime definetly was exciting with the pks and ringing a couple off the post. Sort of fun with the Maple Leaf comparisons. They were fortunate to win their cups in the 6 team league as I don't remember them even in the finals since they last won a cup in the mid 60's. Vancouver did have a couple opportunities in the finals but coming in second doesn't really mean anything. Have watched Toronto with more interest this year as we sent Luke Schenn from our junior Rockets to training camp expecting him to come back and give us a good shot at the Memorial Cup but we know what happened there so it's been a great year for him and we're in the western WHL finals without him. Who knows what will happen though as the Giants have been really good and Calgary has been even stronger than them. That's why you play the game. nothing is for sure.

Interesting to me that the heart and soul of the Canucks is two French-Canadian players, Luongo and Burrows.  Last night they were the difference, 3 points for Burrows and we all see what Roberto does. It's a good start with time to rest, I just might end up eating crow on this one!

hungry.gif     You know Burrows is one of those guys that you hate when you're on the other team but I have to admire him and his story of persererance to make it to the Show. He's one of your go to guys right now. thumbsup.gif

French Canadian you say. I say it was a hell of a trade for Bert who is in Cow Town right now. Burrows wasn't even drafted. One of our top 3 liners was drafted #203 . Ohland just raised his salary big time with last nights game. He was a bench warmer while Salo was fit.
There's a bar in Vancouver that was giving free rounds everytime Burrows scored. They thought he would only get about 6 goals at the start of the season. They now have to change or go brokebiggrinbiggrin
This is also the first time the the Canucks have taken it in 4 games thoughout it's history.
Should I send you some Grey Poupon to go with that crowbiggrinbiggrin

Hey, it takes a big man to admit he might be wrong!

Have you guys on the west coast been watching Bruins and Red Wings?  The Bruins are just a tough talented team and the extra gear Detrioit has kicked into is just hard to believe. It sure is getting exciting.

You're right Ray, one of those 2 could easily be holding the cup. Be interesting between the experience of the Wings and the style of the Bruins. Good point about Burrows, I also liked the way he went about signing his contract earlier, I'm sure he could have gotten alot more from a few other teams but chose to stay and he obviously plays for the love of the game. Sort of curious with what will happen to the Sedins if they'll be able to keep them. I've heard a little talk of them following Burke to your part of the country, I don't know if you guys have had your fill of Swedes or if you'd want a couple more. They sure have come along, the test will continue now in the playoffs.

The twins coming to Toronto has been going around here for a couple of months now. I have a few goods sources close to the club who should know better than leak this stuff but they think it is a "slam dunk!" Time will tell. In the meantime they are a treat to watch. The Leafs have so much money and Burkie is a real horse trader. I feel pretty good with him snatching Tyler Bozak that he means business.

Hey.....I saw that big picture of the Canadians logo you put on the thread and then you edited it off after the first game. I hear they're blaming it on the goaltender. What I saw was they couldn't get it out of their end. If they played like they did the first few minutes of the 4th game they still would be in.

Damn, somebody noticed!!! I didn't want to jinx it so with the avatar and the logo, I thought it too much! Then when they lost...............Well, I kinda knew we were in tough run!! That is Montreal though, they get on you hard and fast when it seems as only one person is not playing well.....Next year...?

How about them Ducks!!!! They are up 3-1 over San Jose.Teemu is still playing great hockey there.Ryan is racking up the points and he's a rookie!! Pretty impressive for an 8th place team. They are looking like the Ducks from the year they won the Stanley Cup,and their goalie Jonas is standing on his head for them. They have the offense, they have the defense, and I think they definately have the goalie-two shutouts already against the league leading San Jose Sharks.Randy Carlisle is a great coach as well-so we'll see where this all goes.

The Ducks look like a Hockey Machine. The hardest thing for me is not that they are winning BUT how the heck they ended up 8th !? J S Giguere a Stanley Cup winning goalie is on the bench! Talk about depth.

That has to be one of the all time worst efforts on record for the Flames, could be costly as well with a few big names leaving the game. Hard to imagine them bouncing back after that humiliating and brutal loss.

Definately their worst effort... They've been up and down all year, but they've never played that bad.  I think maybe they have a lot more injured players than they're letting on.  I know that sounds like an excuse, but thats all I can think of to explain that horrible play.

vanc. in 6 vs chicago
Det, in 5 vs anaheim
Vanc. in 7 in the west final vs detroit.

Anaheim seems to be peaking at the right time and they are tough as nails. Did anyone see Getzlaf and Thornton going toe to toe last night? Chicago basically beat Calagary into the ground, very brutal.  I'd say Canucks will have to "man up" real fast if they want to get past the Blackhawks. A guy like Kyle Wellwood has got to be shaking in his boots. Canucks got an easy 1st round draw which will probably hamper their performance at the beginning of the next series. The Blackhawks are battle bloodied and ready to roll. It's going to be exciting for sure. Too tough to pick for me.

If the Ducks goalie stays hot.....I think they can take Detroit.
Vancouver is going to have there hands full and keep the rebounds away from the Hawks.

I think we will have an Original 6 final, just can't say who right now other than Bruins in the East.
