Joel,  you are kidding about the inner fender panels right???

By the way, I have a set of used mudbuckets if your interested.  The repro's are plastic and do not fit well at all.

I have about 3 of the gear boxes with pitman arm attached if I had known you needed one.  Of course the shipping might have been a bit much.  Are you running the 4 lug suspension or has it been changed.  I also have a bunch of front suspension pieces, including a complete 5 lug setup.

Hi Norm, what do you mean by am I kidding on the fender panels?
I don't follow? Are they not chevy ii replacement panels?

PM me pics and price for the cleanest set of mud buckets you have.

I pulled the steering box/pitman arm off a parts car of mine so it didn't cost me anything.
I'm at work now but I can't remember if the joint in the '63-'67 pitman arm's is removable or if you need to replace the whole arm if the joint is shot.

I've already got a 5 lug setup on the car. Thanks.

The stock inner panels are solid behind the shock towers.  It appears the inner fender panels you have are made or modified for fender well headers.  It was quite common back in the day to cut a hole in the panel for the fender well headers to exit.

If the joint is bad on a 63-67 pitman arm, you need to replace the arm.

I only have one set of mudbuckets they are hard to find without any holes.  I will need to take a picture and post it for you.

Norm

Oh you were talking about the hole in the inner fender panel, sorry I must of been day dreaming earlier.
Yeah I was kidding about that comment and you hit the nail on the head why they're cutout.

I think I'll need a new pitman arm cause the joint is shot from what I remember.

Joel, I envy you that you are doing your engine compartment (just the way I plan to do mine!!!) I have done my rad support front and all that you'll do, and it looks great, so will yours, my rattle cans of semi-gloss come from local equivalent of Canadian Tire which we do not have down here eh? smile.gif

I always apologize when I open the hood that I have not yet painted the engine compartment, but you will have no reason to apologize to anyone!

Dave

Dave, you envy me... come on your car is badda$$.
Yeah, they'll be no apologizing when popping the hood.
I think the exterior red paint job from a previous owner is the only thing I'll be apologizing for.
Gonna keep it for a couple years like this then she'll get a re-shoot.

I pulled the tank which is quite beat up but after dropping it there was a refurbished sticker by a local rad/tank shop.
I was surprised, so I checked inside and it's been cleaned and coated... Don't quite get why someone would spend money to refurbish a tank in this shape...

Thanks for the inspiration again Joel!

I planned to work on my 327 tonight but it's been a long, long time since my wife and I spent any time together so we went to Winnipeg and had a Tim's night out. No regrets about that either!

However, I really have the Acadian bug again. Keep posting those progress shots!!!

Not really an update but a cool story to add...

Going back earlier this year in January I was looking at my GM data sheet and wondered about the dealership my car was sold through when new, Dickson Motors Ltd of Winnipeg.

So I googled the dealer's name and a few hits came up and one was for an ebay auction for some old manitoba dealer badges and one of them was a Dickson Motors badge with a few other winnipeg dealer badges. The auction had past back in Oct '08 so this was months after and I couldn't believe it. So I wondered if the guy had sold them or not... I decided to contact him through ebay to see if by any chance he still had the dealer badges. I received a reply a while later saying no one bought them through ebay but they were misplaced and he'd have to find them. I was excited but also not sure if they'd surface, the guy runs an antiques store in Virden MB so he said he has lots of stuff to go through.

So I waited a month or so and no word, so I sent him an email asking if they turned up... nope.
So I asked if I could send him an email now and then to see if they surfaced and he said that's fine. So every month that I didn't here back from him I'd send a reminder email asking if he found them. Months went on and I kept sending emails.

Finally a couple weeks ago I received a reply, "Found Them!" Man I was excited, by then I was thinking he'd sold them a while back and not remembered. So he said he delivers items to Wpg every few weeks to save shipping costs for ebay buyers so I waited another few weeks.  Finally they arrived today.

It's in decent shape, there's not too many pits and the chrome is decent just need to repair the studs on the back. I'm going to place it on my trunk lid, it's gonna look really good once I put all the trim back on the car.

That's cool Joel! Mine is from Winnipeg Motor Products. I see you have one in your collection. I have never thought about it but we should be checking in the older wrecking yards for these things. There's likely still some out there.

That Dickson plate looks pretty nice.

Who/where was Century? I don't remember that name. Is it GM?

I didn't know your car was from Winnipeg motor products... There was one of those badges at the swap meet earlier this year.... I also know another guy who should still have one, I'll send you his contact info. If he doesn't we could work something out if you want the one I have.

I've never heard of Century, I'm not sure what brand they sold?

Yeah, the Dickson one is decent, I think I'm just gonna repair the studs and leave it as-is.

Sorry, I wasn't suggesting you part with the WMP plate, more just babbling!

If my car ever had the holes for the plate they were filled before I got it. I know the car had one repaint on it before I got it in 1986. I never asked her when or why but I stripped it bare to paint it in 1990 and there was no sign of a crash or rust repair so I'm not sure why it was painted or if a plate was ever on there.

There's a couple of yards I have in mind that we need to visit. There may be some old tags around...

Last week I finally got the front sump oil pan swap finished.
I ended up using an oil pan gasket set for a pre '74 sbc and the front seal fit really nice.

I've wire wheeled the whole underside of the car now and have a few rust repairs to do before paint.
It's starting to look much better under there now.

You sure are going at it way better than me, I did the parts of the frame that you can easily see when the car is on the ground, but not under the body - the only underbody part I painted was above the gas tank when I had it out (figuring I will never be there again):

Yours will be beautiful from ANY angle thumbsup.gif

How did it turn out with the wire wheel ?  I have to do the same to mine in the spring. Not sure what would work best, wire wheel or flaper wheel . I still have some undercoating to remove some how.  Are you planning on painting or using something like Lizzard skin or a bed liner coating ?

The wire wheel worked pretty good on the less scaly areas, they're smooth now but the more scaly areas still have some pores in the metal.
I was planning on hitting those areas with my sanding disc after the rust repair.

The front and rear fenderwells have undercoating that I just cleaned up any loose areas and will add another coat.
As for the rest, originally I was going to undercoat the whole underside but alot of the metal came smooth so now I'm thinking of painting it instead, we'll see.

I wired wheeled one a while back and was very happy with how it turned out. However, the car was pretty much rust free to start and that sure helps.

I'm sure this is really what Carl was looking to see... pics of my front sump pan swap.

Misc 099.jpg

Misc 100.jpg

Misc 101.jpg

Here's a pic of the new oil pump and pickup.
My first snag was the pickup I was going to use was way too loose of a fit in the pump so I called Carl to see if GM still made these chevy ii front sump pickups... low and behold Carl had one in stock in his basement.
Off to Morris I went the next day and this new one, fit like a glove.

Misc 106.jpg

Instead of drilling and tapping my block I rigged up a nice little bracket and welded it to the existing bracket and bolted it down under the center main head bolt.

Misc 107.jpg

Second snag was the 1 piece pan gasket I bought had a thick front seal and it didn't fit my front sump pan.
Turns out sbc pan gaskets go by oil pan year and not engine block year, pre '74 = thin, '74+up = thick front seal. Now I know.
I had to use a felpro multi piece cork and rubber set but it works.

Misc 109.jpg

Misc 111.jpg

Misc 112.jpg

Misc 113.jpg

Misc 114.jpg

Misc 115.jpg

Engine specs to follow once I finish dressing the longblock.
I can't wait to bolt on my new intake, carb, valve covers...
Well, the engine's sitting under poly right now while I finish cleaning under the car.
