RE: My '62 Acadian Build

Looking good, except one problem. Do yourself a favour and get rid of the Fram filter before it causes problems.

If you think I am just a diehard AC Delco trying to push my filters, spend some time on some other forums (I think Steve's included) about Fram nightmare stories.

I can't quite tell in the picture. Short water pump setup, right?

Nice job on the bracket for the oil pickup tube. That should work fine. Likely less work than drilling, tapping and certainly a lot safer for getting junk in the engine too!

Oh, and your work area is WAY too clean looking. How do you do it???!!!

That filters quite a few years old, I thought I read something about Fram more recently, I'll have a look into that.
Yup, that's a short water pump (I bought from you with other parts last winter).
My work area does get messy, I just tiddy it up every few weeks.
My wife wants her stall in the garage back once the white stuff starts flying so I'm loosing storage space.
That's why I took a break from the bodywork to get the motor ready to drop in then I can store the cherry picker and engine stand out of the garage.

I have also been told to move that frame so she can have her parking space back for the winter. O well I guess thats it for the season. Guess I will just collect parts all winter for spring. What are you going to do  ? You have to keep them happy so you can be happy.

This was my solution to that problem last year.

We must be in the same orbit guys, now that the 56 is on the ground and running I am getting pressure to give her side of the garage back to my ever-lovin' too smile.gif

Only difference is no pressure due to impending snow, so I can stall her a little longer ... I think ... well maybe not, eh?

I got a little consulting gig so will have a few extra bucks, we did a cheap $3500- delivered-and-set-up pre-fab shed to put the boat in and free up garage space, maybe I will have to break down and build a REAL garage all my own (so she can have hers back permanently) on our next-door vacant lot.

Carl - did you go for separate 100 amp 220 volt service in your free-standing garage? How about plumbing?

Dave

Nope, it's just a bare shell with lights and plugs. Strictly for storage. The double attached is 28x28 and that's my workshop. We park the daily stuff and store in the detached, 28x42.

The mezzanine in the big one is the best thing I ever did.

Well it may be a while until I get some good progress done on the car,
so I thought I'd post the pics I took from the last couple months.

Here's the underbody all wirewheeled and awaiting paint.
Took quite a while to clean it all and complete a couple rust repairs.

Misc 124.jpg

Misc 125.jpg

Misc 126.jpg

I decided to stick with the 8.2 10 bolt 3.08 posi for now.
Should work nicely with the TH350 and 26" tires on the highway.
1114091237.jpg

Here's where I degreased, scraped and cleaned it with a toothbrush.
1114091324.jpg

Then wirewheeled the whole thing until it was all clean.

Misc 2358.jpg

Misc 2359.jpg

I wanted a cast iron look so I painted it with Duplicolor cast gray engine paint.
It came out more of a pewter, we'll see how it looks under the car.

Next is underbody paint (which should have been done by now if I didn't get a little surprise last week).
So now I'll have less hours to work on it but it'll get done... eventually.

Good progress Joel. The car will always be there but the baby will be grown and gone before you know. So don't worry about the car if its not done when you expect it will wait for ever.

Looking good. You should be cruising by spring biggrin.gif  What kind of wire wheel do you use. The kind that fits on a angle grinder ?

Instead of trying to explain here's a pic of 2 of the 3 I use in my drill.
The big one was on sale for a couple bucks at princess auto.
It's meant for a bench grinder so I welded bolt/nut combo so it fits in the chuck of my drill.

I really hope to get it on the road in 2010 maybe not spring but late summer still counts. smile

Keep those progress reports coming, Joel. You are an inspiration to many of us. My consulting gig is nearing an end so I can get back out in my garage soon, I hope.

Keep it up Joel. I remember how it was when the kids were "new". Being a night owl is helps but that's not for everybody.

I'll have to try and figure out what's the best way to get some time in the garage and not interfere with family time.

Ian, I just used spray bomb asphault undercoating in the rear wheelwells for sound deadening and the rest is paint.

excellent progress. somebody had asked about wire wheels and flapper disc way up in the post. i use both on my car. the wire will gouge out the heavy stuff and the flapper disc smooth everything out after the wire. when CTC had the grinders on cheap, i bought 4 so every grinder has a different cutting/grinding disc. keep up the good work and pics
