RE: My '62 Acadian Build

Good Job Joel, keep at it, every little bit of time in the garage helps, don't get discouraged, enjoy your time with the baby, the car will wait and not hold it against you.

Hey Joel, time for an update.

Either you are living in the garage with no time to post, or you haven't been there and have nothing to post!

Yes, but when he picked up some parts from me a week or so ago he mentioned he may have an opportunity over the next couple of weeks for some garage time. I was hoping to see a whole bunch of progress for him!

I was also hoping for a whole bunch of progress but of course things got in the way and I only spent a few evenings working on the car.

Hopefully by the end of the weekend I'll have made some progress and then I'll post some updates.

OK Carl, here's the progress pics.

Not much done but it feels good to start re-assembling finally!

Nope, stock 62's came with an 8.2 with a drop out center section like a ford 9" and 4 lug axles.

This rear came with the car, it's an 8.2 (?'65) with 3.08 posi and regular GM 5x4.75 bolt pattern. It'll do for now.

It'll be fine with a small block automatic unless you have some serious horsepower and very stick tires.

I ran the same thing in my 65 behind the 427 for 10,000 miles and I wasn't always nice to it!

Looking fine. I'm afraid you are winning the race. My project seems to be going slower.

Daughter's doing great.  She's doubled her birth weight in just under 2 months.

Well, I can see you're getting a lot done!!!

VERY cool pic Joel. Cars are fun but they sure don't compare.

And the best part about having girls?  That snuggling continues long after the boys don't think it's cool any more!

This is one of my favourite shots. You can see it continues for a few years. This is when our daughter was about 8.

Looks like we got a little off topic a few posts up so back to the build.

Here's some shots from a few weeks back.
I haven't been back in the garage in over 2 weeks!

Here's the '63 gear box from my parts car.

Cleaned up and ready for paint.

Here's my '63-'67 style idler arm, center link and inner/outer tie rods.
The tie rod adjusters are nice tubular Global West units.
Also the idler arm has a ball-bearing idler kit installed that replaces the stock joints to help cure alignment issues.

Fresh coat of Cast engine paint.

Installing new pitman arm.

Getting organized to tackle the front end.

Here you can see the ball bearings on the idler arm.

Slowwwwwwwwwly getting there.

One step at a time. Don't we both know it!

Boy it would be nice to see two "new" Acadians out this summer.....

Keep it up, looking great. Once you get the little papoose and mommy tucked in at night, sneak out for an hour or two once in a while. It keeps things rolling.

There is a guy down here in Florida that has been doing this for a long time.  He does an excellent job and I think it would be about $60 less.  I will PM contact info if your interested.   Norm

Lefty, I used Dupli Color chrome spray paint from canadian tire, definately not as nice as a re-plated bezel but I wasn't going to dish out that kind of coin for re-plating.

Thanks if you can send me the name or web site of the florida guy who does the re-plating, i have a spare bezel i could send him

My 63 SD convert should be ready by summer, may not have top on but wont drive it in the rain
found more rust this week. It was one inner engine compartment beside hood hinges. It was no tthrough but i could see blisters by spot welds. the silly buggers at the factory put two pieces of steel together withoutpriming the surface so it rusted from between the two. So i cut out large strip and welded 2 pieces back in (from both sides it looks better then original !!
Going to Vegas next week but i will post pictures of the repair when i get back.
