No update yet, I haven't worked on the car since I moved last spring.
The yardwork is starting to taper off, so maybe pretty soon I'll have to dust off the tools.

Well the car's only been on hold for a year and a half now. smile

Since the last build update, we've moved out of the city, had a second child ,

built a 24x26 detached garage and completed a whole pile of projects on the house and in the yard.

Now, it's time to get back to the car.

Here's my private car hauler (aka Carl S.) towing the car to it's new home spring '11.

This was the second time he's moved my car for me from an old home to a new home in the last 5 years, thanks again Carl.

Next move, I'm driving it.

Last year I built some sub-frame connectors.

Started with some 2x4 lumber and paper templates.

IMG_3266.JPG

Transfered them to steel.

IMG_3272.JPG

Welded them up.

IMG_3274.JPG

IMG_3278.JPG

The kinked up section just after the front subframe is where the exhaust will cross over from outboard to inboard (I'm going to use fenderwell headers).

IMG_3276.JPG

I still have to clean them up a bit and prime/paint the welded areas.

IMG_4824.JPG

Next project, I just finished modifying a driveshaft safety loop.

Here's what I started with.

Here's what it looks like now.

IMG_4817.JPG

Here's the bolts and retainer plates from inside.

Hopefully the next update won't be in a couple years from now.smile

Nice! I think I need to come for a drive some evening. Maybe on a convertible night soon.

I don't have to worry about other's asking me to haul cars for them after I hauled (sort of...) that last one for 2kwik2c!

What type of drop off policy do you have?

It's a surprise, you never know when it will happen!

Although in Joel's case, no surprises, I unloaded it where I was supposed to, both times...

Sounds good.  Shoot me a line whenever you're up for it.

Next update.

I got the driveshaft straightened, ballanced and installed new u-joints.

IMG_4827.JPG

How she's sitting now.

IMG_4842.JPG

Next is the exhaust.

I bought a 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust kit with turbo mufflers from Jegs a while back and some extra U bend tubes for my fenderwell header routing.

I also bought an H pipe kit but might not bother adding it. I'll complete the welding first then see.

IMG_4826.JPG

I had to cut and weld the intermediate pipes to fit my headers.

IMG_4828.JPG

The driver side header collector sits lower than the passenger so the exhaust had to kick up a bit.

Here's the clearance where the exhaust passes on the subframe connector.

IMG_4833.JPG

IMG_4839.JPG

IMG_4840.JPG

IMG_4837.JPG

The tailpipes are a couple inches short so I might look at some chrome tips, not sure.

IMG_4830.JPG

I still have to weld up the system but it turned out pretty good.

Just wish the driver side header was tucked higher up and the tailpipes were a little longer but for the price can't complain too much.

Now I KNOW I have to come for a visit... Guess it's time I got off my butt and got to work on that Grande Parisienne.

Good for you Joel, if you're in the area stop in and give me a kick in the rear and tell me to get to work.

I pulled the headers out and had a chance to blast, prime and paint them on Saturday.

These are '60s Doug Thorley 1 5/8" primary with 2 1/2" collector fenderwell headers.

I know fenderwell's aren't everyone's cup of tea but I love them.

IMG_4848.JPG

My "shadetree" blasting setup.

IMG_4851.JPG

My "shadetree" paint booth:

IMG_4853.JPG

First I primed with VHT flameproof primer and then used a small torch to cure the primer a little.

IMG_4855.JPG

Then I painted them with VHT flameproof flat silver and used the torch again.

IMG_4859.JPG

I can't wait to bolt them back in and install the new intake, carb, valve covers... to see how they look.

Hopefully they won't need to be recoated for a couple of years cause they're a real pain to get out of the car.

Hahaha, yeah there a little rare these southern manitoba header trees. You have to wait just before snow fall untill the headers are ready for picking.

"Grounder" headers are still great in my books.
