Made it out tonight, got there late so excuse the pics. You get the idea, a few nice Ponchos there tonight. My favourite was a US car, a 1950 Silver Streak Torpedo.

1950 Silver Streak - really nice car 239 flathead 6.

Yeah. I'd be scratching my head too, Ray. If it was an original V8, it was a 265.

I looked at it. The block did look original to the era,  it had motor mounts off the front of the block to the cross member so I don't think any other sbc would be machined that way. I just don't know enough about this era other than to know it is pretty much impossible to have an original 283 engine two years ahead of 283 production. Car was in nice condition though.

ray,
right up through the '80s the sm/blks still had those mount holes cast in the block.
they used them to mount pwr steering pumps etc.
'58 chevs 1st used side mounts.
an original '57 283 block would not have the mount bosses cast into the side of the block.

The 55 is a Pathfinder Deluxe.  I would not doubt that it has the original 265. If you happen to see it again try and get a pic of the data plate.

Thanks Al

Thanks for the info Dave and Al, Well I'll let the owner know his car is a Pathfinder Deluxe and he is probably just mistaken on the engine size. I gave him a card for the site. He said he needs a few parts for the front suspension. I told him we have an expert on here on these cars, none other than Al Taylor, so it is great that you saw the post Al!
