In dash tach

What tach will fit in the dash for my 64 beaumont? Will a chevelle or a GTO one fit? Would like to get away from having it on the column. Clock doesn't work anyway, so a good spot fro a tach.
Thanks, Brian

The factory tach for Beaumont 64-67 is the same as the 64 GTO  tach. They are available reproduction.

Thx Carl, were they a 6000 or 8000 tach, which supplier would be best?

Here's a better shot. It's 7000.

I have dealt with Ames Performance a number of times, as well as Performance Years and been happy with them. I'm sure lots of others have it too.

Thx Carl, thinking of going to a more original look for the car, still have 14" rims, probably will go to redline tires although I don't think they were available in 64, but would look nice with my paint scheme. Also have an assortment of 64 spinner wheel covers, now I will have to look for clear parking light lenses.
Maybe I can hide my 3" exhaust so the noise will be the only thing giving it away.

I have heard conflicting stories on that. Some say yes, at least one guy says it ruined his factory tach.

On the original 1964 GTO option package whitewalls or redlines were available so they redlines are period correct to your car.

Good point about the ignition, I have a drop in ready to run MSD billet distributor and MSD blaster SS coil, no box.  Any thoughts on this? Nice to look original, but don't want to wreck the tach.

Just purchased a 64 GTO tach from E Bay. Been looking for years!! Have not been able to find a repro. from any of the various suppliers. All they have is the 66-67 repro, which I have, but not impresses with. Classic Performance in Calgary said someone is making them again, but I have not seen one. What about the hookup..will there be an issue hooking it to a
electronic ign? I see the tach in lots of Beaus, but never looked to see what ign they have..hopefully it will work...or any suggestions??

Nice to see that your returning to the spinners and a original look. They look the best the with all the stock trim. Nice car by the way.

Thanks, just a nice driver. Don't know if original rims will clear my disc brake setup, might have to run spacers, if I remember most of the parts are 70 chevelle.

AMES Performance shows one in their catalogue, but if its like the 67 GTO tach I purchased years ago, I was not impressed with the quality when it was installed. Back lighting was white and the face color did not match. as well it was not correct for a 67 Beau!

I cannot find a wiring diagram to hook up my 64 tach in my 67 Beau. There is only one wire hookup in th eback, which I assume goes to the coil/distrubitor. Will it work with a HEI setup? Is the supposed to be a tach filter in the line? or just a wire? How about grounding? Thx

Disc brake wheels are different than drum brake wheels as they have clearance for the calipers. They are readily available from any 1969 and newer car, even S-10's.

Thanks

Randy
