The bad cylinder (#6) is definitely bad valve (not pushrod or rocker or rings, those tests were passed), so the head has to come off. I am sure I can get valves locally since they are identical to 235 Chevy. However the head gasket is different, and pretty much obsolete here in the US. My local guy is going to try but I think his odds are low.
There is one on evilpay but I have not heard back from the guy about shipping to US from Canada.
I'd appreciate any info about possible sources - ideally in US but I do not mind sending some dollars up to Canada, eh?
Thanks, Dave

If you have a local auto parts store handling Felpro gaskets, I just checked and they still offer it.
I went in the book under GM cars and went to 261. It lists it from 55-62. I'm guessing your local auto parts guy will have trouble with it if you tell him Pontiac 261 engine!

That could be an old number. My Felpro numerical listing doesn't even have that number.
The plot thickens.
I love thick soup but hate thick plots
I believe that you're right, nobody has that number in any listing it seems, maybe it is old, the gasket pictured (from ebay) looks like old metal.
A new 7782B Felpro looks like this, sure seems to have the steam holes etc. in the same places?
I can get the 7782B Felpro complete head set (includes intake and exhaust gaskets as well as thermostat and a few other gaskets, might need 'em) delivered to my door for under $40 US, I think I am going to do that.
But will wait a bit to see if anyone else hereabouts has info ...
(I have original GM part number from my parts book but that does me no good?)
Thanks, Dave
