McSquinty lies to us once again - New Ontario Tire Tax begins Sept. 1

Thinking of getting new tires soon?  Better buy before Sept 1 otherwise add $24 plus tax to the cost of a set.  Thanks you lying scumbag Premier McGuinty.  Just like he said our taxes would never go up when he was first elected, he is screwing us again with another big lie.  I am honestly amazed this moron got re-elected.  Makes me ashamed to be an Ontarian...

can't figure out why he ever got elected in the first place let alone again-guess Ontario loves to vote red and white.

Ernie Eves and Mike Harris did a fine job

I do not like McGuinty either but I would take him any day before Harris and his common sense revolution. My wife was forced to make a decision either move from Timmins to Hamilton or take a severance and find another job.  She was the manager at Rent Control and was employed there for appx.15 years. It took her all of 5 minutes to accept the severance package and move on. Harris and Eves left the province in a huge defecit position after telling the public Ontario was in a surplus position. All politicians from every political party destort the truth to suit themselves. I will not call them all liars but will agree with Hillar, McGuinty is one. After all he got elected with his no tax increase campaign. The only item I think Harris did correct was to eliminate the pension plan for the MPPs and set them up with individual RRSP plans.

Living in Northern Ontario the elimination of the spring bear hunt was a huge mistake, bears are all over the place now and are not afraid of humans anymore. I am not a hunter and do not own a gun but I live in the country and bears have become a problem. The solution I hear most often is to trap all the nuisance bears and let them loose on Queens Park and see how Mcguinty likes the problem in his own front yard.

Hillar, I hope to see you at Barrie and have a couple of cold ones together and we can have a friendly debate on our provincial politics. We may have different political thoughts but I know from your posts there is a lot we will agree upon.

Al

Obviously he has been schooled by another loser Hillar and I put up with, Mayor Miller. Problem is no matter who get elected these taxes never get reversed.

Here is why this is a stupid and regressive tax and downright unsafe as well. Maybe OPP Commissioner has an opinion on this too.

Lets say you need new tires as your tires are bald, you make $35,000 a year and have three kids, single Mom with an old Caravan. Tires cost maybe $110 and if you watch close Canadian Tires puts them on for 1/2 off second tire so a set will cost you $330 plus valves balance and normal taxes for about $418. Now add $24 which on this purcahse is another 7.2%. Total taxes on this purchase are over 20%. So $330 turns into $442 and single mom can't do it, that extra 20% buys milk for the month. Mom drives to school one day, light rain and another motorist makes a mistake, slam on the brakes, no traction, swerve to miss, roll over, baby ejected out back window, 5 and 7 year old hospitalized too.

They (politicians of every/any party/stripe) are ALL the the same, everywhere. I hate them all.
Before our present real knob in power (Liberal), we had a real jerk in power (Conservative).
PEI has anyways been a 2 party province ... and they just take turns, after a couple terms, screwing things up ... a vicious cycle!

I voted for Harris-and would do it again

this is a business province and we need a business government

say what you will about Harris-he kept more promises than any politician I ever seen/heard

the NDP created more debt in four years prior than the province aquired in its entire exsistance-David Peterson was a prize too-back to Bill Davis

I will agree with you about Bill Davis, Ontario was in the best condition in history with Davis at the helm. Do not forget about the Davis swan song full funding to the separate school boards. Look at the mess we are in now with shrinking school enrolments four different school boards , all the duplicate admistration, buses, and all the extra costs to run all the different school boards. Common sense would be to get back to one public school system.

And don't forget fellas!  They're also toying with making snow tires mandatory this year as well.  So just imagine the poor people that not only need a set of just regular all-seasons, but now they'll have to dig deeper to buy a set of snow tires.
Think of all the money they will make in taxes with everyone getting the tires changed back and forth each season if they can't afford an extra set of rims.  Just ludicrous to say the least!  One nice thing though out of all of it?  Remember that $5.00 tax per tire that was implemented years ago and was to go towards making the roads better?  PFFT!  For all the money they're raking in, Ontario roads could be paved with gold man!
