Should I buy this 1974 Pontiac Grandam 455 car ?

I might buy this car tomorrow and was wondering if it's worth the 600 miles trip ? The farmer picked it up from a widow about a year ago and has been sitting years since her husband past away, it has only been parked in that tall grass under a year, he doesn't know about the rust situation ie. floorboards inner quarters... The engine is seized from sitting but could be revived with diesel or strong lubricant such as seafoam product ? Interior needs work ... What do you guys think, Is it worth my time, by the way I got him to lower his price.

Hey, if the price is right and you've got the space, I'd snag it.

Gotta love those 455's, monster torque, "seized" = if it won't respond to simple fixes then just rebuild it, actually that is the best course of action since by 74 the pollution nazis had emasculated all motors but you have the foundation and can add aluminum heads and intake and fat cam and big carb and updated ignition and forged 9.5 pistons and headers and at least 2.5" exhaust and you will be rockin' and rollin'!

Body lines are sweeeet and you can always redo the interior, gotta be prepared for a looooooooong project, surface rust on panels will take lots of work ...

Got trailer to haul it? Got $800 cash to offer? Got smooth-talk to convince seller to let it go? Got place to keep it while you work on it?

Things to think about ................

Dave

I don't know what to do ? What if I get there and the honeycomb wheels rubber are weathered I really like these wheels when they are in good shape, I already have 2 455 cores, trunklip looks rough from picture, bad metal in these years ... hard to get parts for these cars too, maybe somebody else wants to restore it ? Me, I'd probably part it out, actually I would, well I guess that answers my question, leave it for somebody who really wants to restore it, another one bites the dust ! Wild Wild West people, Go get it I could pick it up tomorrow for $600 ! You know what to pay...

Pascal
I'd go down there with 4 wheels and a tow-bar.
Some have to die for other's to live. You can get your money back on the honeycombs if those are in good shape.

I went and look at the car today, Nightmare ! I did not buy it, I don't like giving my money to a dishonest seller and a rotten car not even worth $300 ! The car is in good shape he said, the wheels/tires leaked air since last year when he parked it there ? Yeah right the tires are dry rotten off the wheels and the honeycombs are sunfaded down to the black polycast material. I found the 1985 sticker on the licence plate LOL ! The rad was off the seized 455 so that tells me alot of moisture got inside the block and may be cracked, the car is sunk in the ground so I couldn't check for cracks. The interior smells like old mildew big time and the bucket seats frames are broken, dash is cracked there is cat spray, mouse nest and ants nest in there...all panels are rusted including the doors, I manage to jack the back, it's posi rearend with swaybar, the nose is shot, cracked. No AC, factory flexfan on that 455 ? I drove a thousand Kms for nothing today, I got there at 10:00 am Saskatchewan time and was alone for about an hour, I was so upset I felt like steeling the wheel caps and all the GA emblems but I'm not like when I was young anymore, I'm too honest to do this, the caps are pitted anyway...in search of the next collector Poncho again !

so why do people misrepresent-I always under describe so when someone does come they'll be impressed and buy-idf I'm expecting one thing and see another I'll often walk even if its worth the dollars due to disappointment.

When I saw the first pics I was thinking with the travelling and towing it home just for parts tops it is a 300.00 to 500.00 car... If you phone him back tell him how disgrunted you are and offer him the lowest , you might have a parts car... the 455 heads would crack before the block on those Pontiac Blocks , But the rear Posi is worth $600.00 also to the right guy. thing to do is strip the car on a page and put down what each part is worth , cut it in half and thats your profit, minus the phone calls, towing, gas, tearing it apart" which I like to do" :>)

Pascal, I hear you man! And I can relate to you 10,000% on the false ads that people write up......... But at least you only traveled a 1000kms... Try 3 provinces and what seemed like 1/3 of the Pacific ocean!!! (laughing with you!!!)

At least you got to visit Saskatchewan again!!!!

Thanks for the cheers guys, I already tried to lower his price again, his answer was it will just sit here and I may restore it some day, the usual reply ... Anyway, I don't want to give him a penny after all this.

Sorry to hear that you wasted your time ... hopefully it was a nice drive over there, and that your enjoyed being on the open road, miles rushing by, car running sweet, countryside rolling by and looking good, humming along, motor is happy, you are happy, put aside the jerks, just enjoy being on the road, oh yeah it is good to be on the road ...

Agree with you - if someone is coming a long distance to look at a car the least the seller can do is ensure the potential buyer knows what he is coming to look at.
