I'm familiar with this car , as the owner has just bought some parts from me.

 BUT............on another note...

I just had another visitor today looking for parts I'm selling, who drove up in a 69 2+2 427/390  bucket seat convertible.  Documented by GM Canada and 1 of 60 427/390 Convertibles.

White ( originally Black ) with red interior.

I've informed the owner of this website , as I'm sure everyone would appreciate this very rare car. I'm sure many did not know that this one was still around.

Hopefully theowners join this site , and share some pictures.

Just trying to help you 2+2 guys out. It's a gem and cheap. Hopefully you will do the same for the 64-65 Beaumonts.

So what is the deal on that 68?  Where is it listed and how much?

1969 2+2 Convertible with a 427 or is it a Parisienne?

I need to verify a VIN number that someone claims is a '69 2+2 Convertible with a 427 engine.  I am not familiar at all with Canadian VIN numbers.  Any help would be appreciated!  The VIN is: 7686791114755.  I just want to know if it might be a clone.  Thanks for any help you can give me!

Welcome to CP!.

Like US cars, Canadian GM products didn't include an engine digit in their Vins until 1972 model cars but Canadian built (and US built cars that were shipped new to Canadian dealers) are documentable through GM Canada Vintage Services...similar to the US Pontiac PHS documents..

http://www.gm.ca/gm/english/shopping/parts/vintage

Engine options sometimes appear on the Cowl Tag of Canadian cars too so is worth looking for first..

Also if you want to disclose where the vehicle you're considering is others here may know the car and have first hand knowledge too..

Well that has LS1 right on the data plate so assuming the data plate is real, it's the real McCoy.wink

As Ghost Post said, you could always spend the coin to send the VIN in to GM Vintage Services to confirm.  They even have a service where they will respond by fax overnight if you are in a hurry.

Here's the eBay link..

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Pontiac-2-2-ONE-OWNER-1969-PONTIAC-2-2-CONVERTIBLE-427-BB-ORIGINAL-RESTORED_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem2ea777f98cQQitemZ200378153356QQptZUSQ5fCarsQ5fTrucks#v4-35

I could be wrong but didn't the owner of the car drop by here a week or so back also wasn't it noted that the original engine is gone?.

Yes LS1 & M40 are on the Cowl Tag..
LS1 = 427/335 Hp w/ 2-Bolt Mains
With M40 (Turbo 400) the original suffix could be LE or possibly a Canadian Numerical Suffix too...it'd be nice to see the original POP which it looks as if the seller may have?.

Good luck!.

If you read the questions and answers on the ebay listing, it looks like we may have some pretty serious bidders here.  This is going to be fun to watch!

Okay...I have to ask....does anybody have any idea (besides what someone will pay) this car is worth?  I doubt that there is a value guide for a unique car like this...

I think it is shocking all of us what this car has been bid to so far
as well:

http://canadianponcho.activeboard.com/forum.spark?aBID=118110&p=3&topicID=30518435

In any event, good for Canadian Pontiacs and the recognition they should receive.
It looks like the concensus here is the reserve is probably about $45K.  Will it get bid that high, who knows?  By all rights this car should be worth AT LEAST as much as an equivalent 427 Impala SS convertible, but since it is much rarer, a lot more than that.  The market is what the market is.  None of us has seen an equivalent car sold in Canada in the last few years.  I saw a triple black 68 427 2 + 2 convertible sell for about $15K at the Toronto auction about 10 years ago.  The problem, as we have stated many times on this site, is that the big market, the US, is generally unaware of even the existence of these cars, let alone their rarity and value.  A big step forward was taken this year with the formation of the new Canadian Pontiac Speciality Chapter of the Pontiac Oakland Club International.

I was born in the U.S. and have ALWAYS been a fan of the big car Pontiacs, but the 2+2 models are just too cool and have been a favorite of mine for the last 30 years! It just amazes me how so many U.S. Pontiac "experts" look at me like I don't know what I'm talking about when I mention the 2+2's!
I'm not sure what the Ebay seller is looking to get, but I think he is hoping for a lot more than $50,000. The thing is, this is not a concourse restoration, but I think he's hoping for that top dollar.

In the eBay listing:

"WHAT LED MY FATHER TO THIS RESTORATION WAS A CRACK THAT DEVELOPED IN THE BLOCK. WITHOUT THE TECHNOLOGY AT THE TIME TO REPAIR AND WARRANTY, HE CHOSE TO GO TO PONTIAC DEALERSHIP AND PURCHASE A BRAND NEW BARE BLOCK. FROM THERE, THEY REBUILT THE MOTOR FROM TOP TO BOTTOM WITH ALL THE ORIGINAL PARTS. "

The owner mentioned the motor has been replaced. The body and floors are apparently original however the trunk has been repaired.

It would be safe to assume you'd be the only one at pretty much any car show with one!

You are asking one of those loaded questions. We all have different views on the subject and may have different views on different days or with respect to different cars.
If you are buying it to make money you have to lowball it.
If you are buying it to enjoy it, how does it compare to others you would also enjoy.
Our Canadian Pontiacs are very difficult to compare.
I can use my 67 2+2 as an example of rarity and difficulty in coming up with a value.
My car is an original Big Block (396) 4 speed convertible.
GM documentation says 39 1967 2+2's built with this combination. We don't know how many were convertibles.
I have paid attention for 10 years now and only know of 3 other original 4 speed cars. One is a hardtop, one is an original 427 car and one is a cowl tag.
If mine disappeared how much would it cost me to replace it? I could try to convince Elroy to sell me his 427 car and then restore it or take a non "correct" car and make one.
In the past 2 years I have added a nice fresh 454 crate engine plus new clutch, muncie, exhaust, fresh rear quarters and trunk sheet metal installed and a driver quality paint job. I paid a fair (less than body shop rate) for the bodywork and paint. The car is appraised for approximately the cost of this list of items plus all the misc. stuff that goes with those items.
I could probably get some kind of big block 4 speed convertible in equivalent condition for the money.

Well if the original mill is gone, it SUBSTANTIALLY hurt's the value (as we all know!) so it's rarity while provin, would be hard pressed to rival a #'s 427 ss rag. Sorry to be blunt, but it's true. That being said, cool car none the less. It's worth what you will pay for it.

Are the side louvers on correctly?  They've got the chrome edge forward.

- I can never remember on a '69 which way they're supposed to go.  I know they have a small drain hole at the bottom, so if put on wrong they won't drain.

I'm surprised it's being bid this high. I don't see this as a 40-50K car.
