Hard to say Mike. WHen there aren't any comparable matching no cars for sale, I would say not much but a collector might argue at least 10 -20% more ??

Can anybody say Ringer bids ?????

Odd that a few weeks before this baby comes out of the wood work, in Florida no less.

We have two threads on this topic. I am going to merge them under the original one by Pascal showing the ebay listing.

It looks like something weird is going on. Here are the last four bids on the car. As most of you will know, they disguise the bidder's identity.........

So, after 8***8 bid US$31,200 on Sep-02, i***e upped the bid three times without any comeback from any other bidder. Huh? Why is i***e bidding against him/herself?

I took a closer look at the list and now realize that the date and times are not sorted, so the bidding has me more confused than ever.

On Sep-01, it was US$35,000. How did it go up to US$42,000 on the morning of Sep-02, then drop to US$31,200 on the afternoon of Sep-02?

Simple, he kept upping the bid until the reserve was met.  He wasn't bidding against himself, he was bidding against the reserve price.  Now that he knows the minimum amount it takes to buy the car, he has decide whether to put additional bids on to protect himself against snipers, so don't be surprised if you see a few more bids by him.

We figured out the reserve was $45,000 days ago. It was either that or $50,000 so there was no need to bid up to the reserve now. I see what you are saying Hillar but isn't this person kind of jumpy. Wouldn't it make more sense to play your cards closer to the vest. There are 3 days to go so why get a bidding frenzie going already. I'd like to play poker with that bidder.

We guessed that the reserve would probably be around $45,000 but we didn't know that.  The bidder simply wanted to find out now what the reserve was.  Now he knows and it is now confirmed that the car will sell as result of this auction.  I've seen this pattern of bidding all the time.  Suppose he had waited until the last minute and then bid only $42,000?  The auction would be over, he never would have found out the reserve, and maybe the car goes off to B-J or gets sold privately and he never gets another chance at it again.  You guys are too suspicious looking for all these straw men...

Bob, it is difficult to explain on here without using a spread sheet but there is nothing abnormal going on.  Remember these are a person's maximum bid at the time of making it but this amount is kept hidden from the world, what is shown on the listing and revealed to the world at any given time is only the amount necessary to exceed the next nearest bidder's highest bid.

i**e's maximum bid at Sept 1 at 8:08 pm was 35,000 but all that was revealed to world was that he topped r**r's bid of 27,750, so the bid shown to the world would have been 28,250.  8**8 only sees this bid and therefore only bids 31,200 to beat it.  When he does, ebay's automatic proxy system uses i**e's bid of 35,000 the day before to automatically raise the bid price to 31,700, but the reserve is still not met, so i**e decides to keep bidding, regardless of other bidders, until he finds out what the reserve is.  Once the reserve is met, he doesn't have to worry about the seller ending the auction early either due to having sold it locally, etc.

I hope that all makes sense but trust me, there is no hanky panky going on.  All the bidders have high feedback ratings, which makes it even more unlikely that there is any funny business going on.

We know this car is sold for at least $45,000. That has to be some kind of record for a Canadian B body wouldn't you think?

Can't think of any that has ever sold for more.  As I said earlier, I wonder what Al Webster's car will go for?  Maybe that record will be broken quite quickly.

When you bid, it holds your bid $100 over the previous bid until its bumped to your amount-it never shows the actual amount you bid

ie: starting bid is $10,000, I bid $15,000 its shows $10,100 until bid on again and again getting me to the $15,000 that I bid showing my $15,000 bid in history dated the day/time I bid it

That's cool and thanks to Bob we know that car is a SS427, odd the seller lists it as an Impala SS with 427.

He, like many others, may not fully realize the important difference even though he owns one.
