Halfbreed sent me his (very large) pdf file of the complete 57 specs, here is the (very interesting - the famous 283/283 could be special ordered!) section that shows the engine choices:
If anyone would like to see other sections of the specs, let me know and I'll make a picture.
(I think that the whole thing is too big to make one picture that would be viewable on the typical website screen.)
Thanks, Dave

I was on the Chevy Talk website quite awhile ago and someone had the list of all fuel injection units built by Rochester and where they were shipped for the 1957 year. Unfortunatley none of the fuelie units were shipped to Canada from the Rochester factory so no 1957 283, 250 or 283 hp cars were factory built in Canada although a dealer could of bought a fuelie unit and pieced one together at the dealership. Highly unlikely though because the Canadian economy was lower than the Americian economy at the time.

So, if that's the situation, someone should build a CP version of one of these.

1957 NASCAR Black Widow
It's already owned by someone on here although considering the amazing original condition it is in, I seriously doubt the owner would consent to modifying it!

Al
well thats a pretty interesting piece of information-thanks
DZAUTO, Tom Parsons, is the FI expert on ChevyTalk. I also have the excellent book on FI for 1956-7 which also covers some 1958 onwards. I don't think it mentions anything on Canadian exports but it is possible that there were some and not in the documentation that has been studied. I say this because in theory no FI cars were supposedly exported and yet I found a 1958 or 1959 British magazine classified ad for a 1957 Corvette FI..so someone ordered it, or it was a serviceman who brought it with them then sold it on tax-free when their tour of duty was up. The only FI cars at the time were the rare Mercedes-Benz 190 Gullwings, so this would have given British mechanics a headache. However there were of course numerous diesel injection centres.

PS I am certain that the '235' is a mistake...148 bhp is the figure for the 261!

Tom Lichty (Liechty?) - an editor for a magazine back in the 80's Cars & Parts maybe? had a Canadian Pontiac Pathfinder that supposedly was built with a FI 283. He said in a few articles that this car was factory built. I can't find any of the magazines anymore, nor can I find a reference to it on the 'net. I remember reading it was sold new in Swift Current Sask. or that is where he found it.
That being said, does anyone know Jack Schimmel in Swift Current?? Years ago he used to know of all the oddball Pontiac stuff in that neck of the woods. Might have some obscure info.....
i stopped in a store called corvette corner, between here and ingersoll, im sure alot of you know it. I went in and was looking around and i asked him how much one of those original fi units would cost, and he said more than my car was worth (which is kind of nasty to say since i only told him it was a 59 pontiac) Now, he was somewhat right mind you, and he said they go for around 5-6 grand!!!
I was going through my original 1957 Pontiac Series 2000 and 2200 maintenance manual that is from 1957 and it makes referrence to one 261 6cyl available which was a continued from 1956 and this was rated at 148/ HP @ 3800 rpm and 239 ft. lbs torque @ 2000 rpm.
It also stated that there was only 2 V8's available (depending on transmission), both 283's, and an optional power package. The std trans version had a compression ratio of 8.0 to 1, 165 HP @ 4200 rpm and 270 ft. lbs torque @ 2000 rpm. The automatic version had a compression ratio of 8.5 to 1, 185 HP @ 4200 rpm and 275 ft. lbs torque @ 2400 rpm. The difference between the 2 was in the heads and both had Rochester 2GC 2 bbl carbs. The power package option had a compression ratio of 9.5 to 1, 220 HP @ 4800 rpm and 300 ft. lbs torque @ 3000 rpm. This engine had a Carter WCBF 4 bbl carb, dual exhaust and was called the Super Turbo Fire 283. No Fuel Injected Egines were mentioned.
In the brochure there is 2 Fuel Injected Engines. Power Chief V8 Fuel Injected 250hp 283 9.3 comp and Power Chief V8 Fuel Injected 283hp 283 10.5 comp.
