RE: Original '66

What was the price on the 63 Ken?

As for the 66, I'm pretty frugal so 6 grand would be about the max I'd pay for such a car.

Actually, the situation is not similar to numbers matching at all. You can only discern numbers matching by close, knowledgeable examination under the hood, but those extra two doors are staring you (and everyone else) right in the face every time you look at the car.

Sure, it's a very nice car; a beauty in fact. But, I'm not quite ready to start driving my father's cars just yet.

Your mileage may vary. wink

P.S. Exceptions include Cadillacs and 4-door wagons. smile

The owner knows the extra doors are hurting him and he had no illusions of making big money on this. We even asked 65Camino's Dad if he wanted to considered it and the first thing he said was "it's a four door" followed by NO. Doug is over 70 so that goes to show you.

This car has Sunday Driver written all over it. Those 20,000 miles probably between home and Church.

Rally wheels and glass packs!    Cool way to get in the car hobby!  For under 20 you could have a 2 door and 4 door set..

Look at that 67 Grand Parisienne for sale on here. I think that's more of a car than this one (original paint too) and the owner is trying to get $6500 for it.

Yes Todd , that black 67 is very very nice, way more car and an interesting provenance too being a Gov't car is I recall.

I just called Lant on insuring these 4 door babies. There is a lot of misinformation out there. These two cars would qualify no problem. It's the 1988 Cadillac Brougham that they won't deal with. Target market is Collector cars.

I've appraised 88 cadillac Broughams that are insured with Lant- he just wants them to be a hobby car-not daily driver

Sadly, sometimes a car with such low miles can turn in to a maintenance nightmare if it's not driven enough.

How much would a guy drive this one? Too much and the value plummets cause of 4 doors, not enough and the value drops because of it possibly needing a lot of maintenance.

nope I disagree-its the same thing-their all Classics-some guys want original, some want modified, some want convertible, some want coupe, some want numbers, some want two doors. This is a Classic car part of the collector car hobby just like a non matching number car is part of the hobby-yes-a 4-door sedan is at the bottom of the barrel for desirability in the hobby -but why ? because someone said so-just like someone said numbers were an issue. These are all classics-nobody should frown on any of them. I've seen a lot more good original four doors than any other model

"a good deal starts with a good car"

That is the exact example he told me but as my post shows he did say his target is "Collector cars" and that is the term used. Sounds to me like previous business is being grandfathered but it was clear to me that they didn't want your mid 80's four doors at all anymore as new business.

Four doors of the 50's, 60's and 70's just don't have "THE LOOK" due to obvious reasons. Higher roof lines, squarer side profiles, and most of all reminding us old fogeys what our parents drove!
That '66 is in great shape and I'd have in a minute IF I was able to buy another car.

I think they just watch 80's stuff more because they are more likely used as daily driver's. I get a lot of late 80's Corvettes (huge savings on insurance) but if it has high kms sometimes he'll turnm' down-I even appraised an 82 Skoda for Lant

I need to talk to Lant about the odd time I'd like to take the Laurentian to work to work on it. We have shop night once a month which gives me free access to a hoist. I would want something in writing from them giving me permission. If something ever happened I'd be afraid they'd deny the claim because I "drove the car to work".

That should be covered by the testing clause   If my company was that fussy, I'd go somewhere else...  Zehr told me I could "Sunday drive" it everyday..   Does that mean, every car guy, who works in a automotive facility, has to have it serviced somewhere else?

There's nothing wrong with 4 doors; with good 2 doors becoming harder to find, buying a 4 door in excellent condition (ref. that red 63 Parisienne sedan noted earlier) is an affordable way to have a nice old car. And styling wise, there's not much difference between a 2 dr post (which we all seem to like) and a 4 door post car.

Nice car ! Personally, I would have a tough time picking between this one and the blue 67 GP car for about the same money. It would be cool to have both but ......

I was going to sell my Original 2 door post, to relieve some financial stress, BUT it looks like I would have to price it at 1/2 its value (6500) to move it..  Looks like I might make a lot more interest, putting it in storage for a few years...  Seems now is the time to grab a deal   lol   C2

Carl-you are bang on-everyone loves a "barn find" A friend and I were looking at a pretty clean turn key 62/63 nova wagon at Barrie $7900 nobody looking at it yet everyone would be climbing on it for $3000 fresh out of a barn needing everything.

I bought my 66 Beaumont conv in the spring at $6000 sat since 87-coulda sold it to the neighbour for $7000 that day-I have over $12,000 in it right now after gathering parts/getting it running/doing brakes etc.... If I told someone $12,000 they'd think I was dreamn'

Your car is a bargain at the $13,000 turn key compared to trying to build one

I agree completely.  It's a buyer's market right now.
