Haven't you packed up and headed this way with that air conditioned 396 car yet? I thought you'd be here by now with title in hand and a one way train ticket so you could get back home.....

Ken, if you are heading this way with C1's car, you want to pick up that dolly in Bellis to hook on and tow another certain 2+2 behind it??? Since you have to past my place along the way to get to Manitoba!!!! (lol, lol)

Thanks for clarifying that Vince. I think that might be the confusion.

Actually the trip  would be really cool as long as you're willing wait to a couple of years(and my wife is willing to wait that long to get that rusty piece of !@#$% out of the yard)

I think that would make quite an interesting caravan alright!  It would just go to show that those 67's just didn't last like the 66's!  Heh Heh

Well, just couldn't see taking your eyes off the road to look down at your console to see what the engine is reving at... But stranger things.............!!

AND, maybe people liked driving the '67's more vrs the '66's and they wore out!!!! The '66's just sat until there were no '67's left.. Maybe, maybe??? (Probably not!) (lol)

Hi guys one thing I just noticed since I just received the tach internals I bought from 427 carl today is that  the one I bought has a printed redline and the one I had already does not have a redline.  Since the  1965 409 car's tach in the pictures has a redline I'm assuming that the  66's did not come with them.

This was probably a warning not to rev the 409's too high as opposed the the Mark IV's big blocks in 66.  heh heh

I'll post pictures of the two when i can get my hands on a camera around here.

Are you saying one has no adjustable red line?

If this helps, I just dug out a picture of my 66 4 speed car I owned. I used a magnifying glass to make sure but it most certainly has a redline on the tach. It appears to start around 5,000 or so. Also it has an adjustable needle.

I know for sure this is the factory tach. I got the car all original from the second owner (1 family since new) and it had transistor ignition. The odds of that unique tach ever having been changed are slim and none I'd say.

Oh, that car was made Jan 13th, 1966 if production date helps at all.

Ha! Now I see what you mean. I just went back in this thread and looked at your pics. 2 styles of face.

Again I learned something new.

Hi Carl, so if your 66 had the printed redline on the face then I don't know which ones would have come without.  All the 65's I've seen (2) had the redline.

Hmmm.

I will dig it out sometime but I have another pic of a 66 tach that I pulled from a 2+2 in 1980. I installed it in my 66 automatic car. I am sure it had a redline as well.

Maybe its like the 10 bolt/12 bolt installation system.  Seems to be no real rhyme or reason.

Here's a picture of the two types together as I promised.  (Little more out of focus than i was hoping.)

The way it works is, the tach with the full green line is a 1965 EARLY version.

At some time in the 1965 production time, I understand that Pontiac was getting warranty claims from consumers who had over-reved their engines.

The tachs were then configured with the red line (they ALL look orange nowadays!!!).

I don't know the cut-off date from when these tachs went with the red line but to see one with an all green line face is a lot less common than the red line versions.

They pop up on eBay from time to time.

I knew that story for the GTO's as I had a 65 GTO setup. I never thought of it for the Canadian full size cars. Thanks for the info.

And welcome here! Great to have you on board. We'd love to see any Candadian Poncho stuff from your part of the world.

Thanks for the welcome guys but to be honest, I'm not really a Newbie at all. I had registered on this site a long time ago and did do some posting but for various reasons I just drifted away.

When I tried to log on a while back I couldn't remember any passwords or what e-mail address I might have originally used so I had to sign up again.

In brief, I own a RHD (factory), 1965 Parisienne Convertible, one of 33 built although I don't know whether that was 33 for world sales or 33 for Australia?  Would like to know that????

It's a 327 with powerglide, power windows including the quarter vents and NO RUST. EVER. However it does have a cracked chassis as a result years ago of a fairly major front end collision. I bought it way back in 1985. 12 years ago I took it off the road for repairs and that's how it lies today.

11 years ago I bought a 1965 Bonneville 4DRHT, that looks like junk. However it was factory built with a 421HO Tri-power and every option except A/C. I was going to part it out but decided that I wouldn't. Even though it looks terrible, it too has NO structural rust. Just a lot of surface rust after the previous owner stripped the pain and left it in an open shed for about 10 years.

Then 10 years back I was in Oregon US and saw a 1966 Grand Prix. Brilliant original car but very sick engine. I bought it, shipped it back here, pulled the engine and rebuilt it and have used it extensively on long raod trips throughout Australia.

However you might all be pleased to know that only 3 weeks ago I positioned the Parisienne back in my garage and have started work on it again.

I'll get some pictures together and post them up one day soon

Thier is a differenence between a 65 to 66 tach. 65 iis all green wereas the 66 tach has a coloured red line three of my cars have them. If memory serves me they could be factory ordered or dealer installed.

I'm still buying OZ 65's  post of October 25th that early 65's had all green as my bros 65 (late production) had the red line and it was factory installed.

And I should have mentioned, as confirmed by 66 Grande guy, the brown wire goes to the negative side of the coil, not the positive as shown in the GM wiring diagram showing tach installation.
