Drove it for an hour-and-a-half today. What a ride. I don't think I could bring myself to change anything on this car. It's too original.

My son said the young ladies will really like it. Sure enough, we caught a few staring at it as we slid on by. biggrin No, they weren't laughing.

I think I'll clean it all up and sell it in the Spring to someone who wants a real land-yacht. wink

Sell? Keep it for a year and enjoy it next summer. I mentioned to Mark when he dropped over today that we need to arrange some sort of run with our cars-maybe Niagara on the Lake. That would be a great car to take on such a trip.

I found some paperwork that shows the car has only added 3,000 miles on the odometer since 1992. His story checks out. I wonder why his dad travelled all the way from St. Mary's to Agincourt (Scarborough) to buy the car new?

I'll have to make a (numbered rofl.gif ) list of questions to ask him.

I'd also be interested in your opinions on the following:

- keep it as is and just drive it occasionally?

- fix the minor rust issues and respray it?

- clean it up and sell it?

- go the whole 9 yards and restore it as new, adding an original style AM/FM and redlines?

Did they live in St. Mary's at the time they bought the car?  They may have lived in Scarborough  before and bought previous cars from Foster's.  I would buy a car from whoever gave me the best price, regardless of where it is located (within reason).

As to what to do with the car, why did you buy it?

Yes, their St. Marys address is on some paperwork that came new with the car. I bought the car for two reasons......I've always wanted an American Pontiac, and I liked the look of the car.

However, I still want a long-term project car. If I find the right one, I'm going to have too many vehicles around here.

 go the whole nine yards-restore it to a 'T' be sure to itemize (number) everything you do along the way and everything you need to buy. Fully document your restoration-It'll likely be one of one

 

don't use redlines-it won't work-they're for 60's cars or 90's Berettas-unless by chance you have one of them British imports.

Honestly, this site has had a lot to do with peaking my interest in them. I have started to see the beauty in them only in the last couple of years.

However, I have always liked the 74-76 Electras for some reason.

Okey dokey. It's surface rust. There are no holes to repair for the safety.













The car got new rear coil springs and front brakes in the recent past. This photo is prior to the rear tailpipe section going on.




All that remains to be installed are new front coil springs (driver's side is broken), a new centre link and idler arm and she's got a safety certificate. For any southerners viewing this, keep in mind that there aren't many 33 year-old cars in the North East that look better than this underneath, unless they've been restored.

I think I'll go looking for the build sheet this weekend.

Yes, to the southern guys this is a rusty car if you trust the pictures.

I have learned that pictures of undercarriages always make cars look worse than they really are.

Nice to see floor under that carpet!
