Iwould guess there is a 12 bolt in it!   bend over the rear bumper,  real low,  and peek at the rear end cover.  If it has 2 bolts showing its a 12 bolt   Call around and have the gears changed    piece of cake

They are no better in southern Ontario.  I recently bought a 12 bolt 2 series carrier for $300.  A 3 series would probably go in the $400 range.

It's likely to be a 8.2 10 bolt.

I went the route of finding a ebay 12 bolt housing in Buffalo NY, it cost me only $300, and it came with a very nice 3 series posi carrier in it. I rebuilt the housng, all new bearings and seals, moser axles. Rebuilt the carrier, added 3.73's. Shimmed it all in to get a nice pattern. New yoke. Nice cover.
It cost me a good buck. I'd say I have about 2K into it. And that's with all my own labour. Bought all the tools I needed, and sold them when done. It was a learning experiance to be sure, not easy, but it took some of the mystery out of this rear end "black art".

You could just buy a new 8.2  3 series posi carrier (about $550), add the gear you want and install it in your 10 bolt (if you have a 10) housing. I think you'd still be looking at around $1200 to do it.

Perhaps you'll get lucky and find a complete unit ready to bolt in.
