My 67 SD convertible's roots


Thanks to a fellow CP member, I got an Ontario ownership history on my Beaumont dating back to 1973... some provinces still have it good!  The earliest owner's name I had was in Peterborough, so after a quick browse of the white pages I had three names/number to chase down.  To keep this short, the first name turned out to be the owner of my Beaumont back in 1973! 

Apparently he found my Beaumont sitting in an impound lot in Peterborough... it was still all original - butternut yellow paint with some minor body damage.  After negotiating a deal with the impound lot, he took the car home and went to work on it.  It emerged with flares, side-pipes, and a new coat of blue paint.  I've attached a few photos he sent me.







By the time I bought the car in 2003, it was wearing a very weathered coat of butternut yellow paint - again. 



I'd like to find anyone that remembers the car between 1967 and 1973.  When it was originally delivered to Forbes Motors Ltd. in Waterloo, Ontario on January 6, 1967, it was equipped with a 350hp 396 with an M20 4-speed, Power windows, black bucket seats with head-rests, and a power top. 

Any info on the history of the car would be greatly appreciated.  I'm restoring the car back to factory original condition, so I would also like to find an original dealer plate/emblem from Forbes Motors Ltd. (in any condition) to put back on the car... or Forbes dealership items to display with the car.

pre 73 info is very hard as the mto changed that year to our current
plate to owner system, so the likely that when the VIN # will appear in the system
the picture shows a 73 plate that appears to be new and likely is attache
to the record of the guy u spoke with, your best bet will be if a plate was attached
to the car when he got the car, maybe he wrote it down, theres a picture??
because even though the old system had the plates travel with the car, the
mto attached many of those old plates to the onwers around the time of the
change, what i mean is in the mto system, the pre 73 plate my still be linked to
the pre 73 owner. this is why when u want to attach year of make plates to your car ie 67 plates on your 67 car the mto must check, as many are still in the system as no longer in use but attached to mr. X.  my friend located her dads 69 chevelle
through this manner she was going in the other direction looking for the car not the owner, but it had been sold before the 73 change over, and the records are not straight forward, the car was still close by and painted another car, but she found it

finding old picures intrigues me ,always wonder were old cars end up?
kinda why i believe in the registry,maybe someone will recognize one of their old cars on here and come up with some old pictures?
there can only be so many 67SDrags? 
alwayw wonderr about Willies 67 SD rag sold new at London Motor Products in April of 67 Pewter with black guts,then painted Butternut Yellow ,then Blue ,then Blue again then left for dead without the motor in a wrecking yard,only to be rescued by wes.
i wonder who owned such a rare and valuable car and just scrapped it,

I love old pics-When I purchased Ian Smith's 1967 SD 396/350 4-speed he let me go through the family photo albumn-I got pics with a boat on the roof and a hardtop trailer being towed-also a pic of his then girlfriend sitting/laying on the hood-somehow through the years and different owners that documentation was missing by the tim Mark got the car-sad

I think I found it in the registry.

It is listed as delivery date of Jan 6th? Do you happen to know the build date of it, off the cowl tag?

Fred (68SD) knows why I'm asking. Still looking for one built after Nov 25th, before Dec 6th.

The N. side of Lake Street buildings were my first thought too and I blew by on the way back from my lad's hockey last night to check but it appears to be a no..
It may be London St. on the S. side between George and Water...I'll look there also a few other locations that are possibles too..

I got your email Helmet and for sure that's the car I remember here in town..
I've mentioned this car here and on other sites in years past and am totally amazed it's shown up and still exists!.
As I'd mentioned before it had the flares and a custom rear window...I was thinking the window was a Chevy bowtie but it appears in the pics it may be a diamond shape?.
I remember doing a walk around it early one morning on Dalhousie St. in the late 70's/early 80' after leaving some sweetheart's place...there was a one year only '71 Charger body SuperBee AirGrabber car across the street I was looking at too..   
I think the last time I saw the Beaumont was late 80's/early 90's in the subdivision S/E of River Rd. South...Sydenham Rd. maybe?.

True enough about the plates and registration changing in 1973. Prior to that, cars in Ontario got new plates EVERY YEAR! they would alternate between dark blue with white numbering one year, then switch to white with blue lettering the next. It was back and for like that for a long time. 1965 was blue, as was 1967, 1969 & 1971. The alternate years were white, such as 1966, 1968, 1970 and 1972. in 1973 they stayed white with blue, then they began issuing stickers to place on the plates at renewal time. I seem to recall MTO still issuing plates with 1973 on them well into the late 1970s.
