1969 427 air cleaner

I am in need of a correct air cleaner for the 427 in my '69 2+2.  I have been born and raised on Pontiac engines, but the Chevy is a whole new animal to me.  If you don't have one, any help as far as a picture, inter-changability, years of production, rarity, cost, and where I could find one would be appreciated!  Thanks!

Rob

Looks like filter elements is too tall on this Pontiac 396. But should look like this.

Here's a photo of the air cleaner from that famous 69 4 speed 427 2+2 that was for sale:

Notice the difference, 335hp one that Ray posted is long slender snout, round opening with auto-thermac, 390hp on car from Simcoe has shorter oval opening.

Similar differences between 345hp and 390hp engines in 1970.

Then the Chevrolet one is the same, probably a reproduction is available.

No 69 reproduction available yet.  As mentioned earlier, there is a difference beyween the 335 , and 390 hp versions.

The 390 ( shorter snout) are very hard to find , and when they do show up ( such as ebay) they generally command $400-$500.  I've sold a couple of AT versions in the last couple of years , and that's what they sold for

If you find the  390hp  4spd Aircleaner they can run up to $1000

The 335 hp versions (longer snout)are still out there . You can usually get them for $75.00 to $150.

Now.. for the Astrojet emblems , that may be a bit more difficult.

The engine in my 2+2 is the 335 horse.  If that is the case, this would be the original air cleaner?  Or at least what it should look like?

Rob.... Your Air cleaner looks to be correct , but if you notice , the snorkel goes straight out. It should drop down.

I may be able to get you the correct one. A friend parted out a 69 Pontiac 4 door that had the 427/335 engine. It was all original, and still had the Astro jet emblems on the lid

I'll check to see if he still has it.

Howard

1969 saw the introduction of a third 427 power plant, the LS-1 335 horsepower variant. This engine was a direct replacement of the L-35 325 horsepower 396, which was phased out of the full size Chevrolet lineup after 1968. The LS-1 was NOT an available engine with SS427 equipment, but I have included it because inevitably many of the original LS-1 cars in 1969 end up as clones.

A mild performer, it was a very workman-like engine that offered both power and streetability, and was available in all full-sized Chevrolets. The most popular of the 427s in 1969, the LS-1 was installed in 18,308 passenger Chevrolets. As was stated earlier, the LS-1 was not listed as an available engine for the 1969 SS427. However, it is not outside the realm of possibility that some of these engines found their way into SS427 Impalas in 1969. Anything seemed possible back then, so I included the LS-1 statistics on this page.

Notice in the image below the style of air cleaner lid; this elongated "neck" is correct for the LS-1. Notice the difference between this air cleaner lid and that of the L-36 which used more of a snub nosed style. Often times this can clue you in to whether or not you are looking at a 335 horsepower 427; assuming the original air cleaner is still with the vehicle!

Yes I did.  Thanks for checking with me.  I am STILL in need of a crankcase vent hose that connects to the air cleaner - part#3927768.  I can't even find a used one!  Thanks.
