wtb a 66 Chevelle BB hood for my Beaumont.

I assume that these are tough to come by.  Any thoughts other than kijiji, ebay and the oem's like Year One?...

there was one in St. Catharines-rusty but repairable or cut the center out and weld it in a good hood-I'll see if I can find his #

I had an aftermarket one that was an incredibly poor fit-maybe you'll have better luck-I won't reveal the company or source of the hood for fear of what happened last time around.

anyway-in short I'd reccommend a decent used one or keep returning the new ones until its a decent fit.

Thanks. Being in Alberta though, shipping costs might make it undoable. (Unless there are members on this site who have shipping connections?)

Just found one on Kijiji in Edmonton.  After market with shipping damage to the corner.  We'll see how bad...
thx

shipping damage in a corner should be OK, they usually need work in the corners anyway

Did you see this one!? Heck, if its still for sale, you could clean it up and sell it for $1200usd, across the line!!  Somebody on here should snap this one up! (ken?)

http://www.usedgatineau.com/classified-ad/10757604

That repro one in your area is good price IF it fits (its probably $300 cheaper than a new one so it leaves you some $ for bodywork on it) I can't find any feedback on how they fit, I emailed Mike Crown (a top 66 afficianado in the states) to ask his opinion if any repro hoods are worthwhile.

They also sometimes improve on the moulds...they did for the 67. If you are considering a repro, call Ausleys even if you are not buying from them, ask them which one fits best, if they had any changes to them in the past few years...this might help you make a more informed decision on whether to go repro vs. oem

ak

p.s. i received an email from Mike, he's not a fan of the fit of any repro for a 66. he does have a line on a nice 66 hood (but of course he gets a finders fee) and it will be top $ for the condition. you can contact him at www.mysterychevelle.com

$1200 U.S. really ? $500-$600 sounds like the right money to me-but I'm cheap

I bought a reproduction at $380 list was $459-fit like crap-low on each rear corner, high in the center of the cowl, high along the length of the fenders, low at the front, thin gage metal, holes drilled too high for the lip molding, wrong size nuts welded in for the hood hinge bolts

i picked that number (probably way high), but if a clean oem 67ss hood can go for $900, and a 66 is a harder hood to find... then? but it would have to be a premium clean and straight peice.

the horror story of the repro fit is one of the reasons i mentioned to call Ausleys... they might have a better idea of which one is a better fit... apparently some re-sellers will buy the first batch before some of the bugs are ironed out... for example, 'apparently' the guys at Ausleys met with the off-shore fabricator of the '67 hood at sema a year or two ago and went through some of the fitment issues with them to correct...

apparently the 67 hood is one of the better repros out there...and yet there are some guys that beat them into submission and end up tossing them, and others that have a decent fit straight away... so i do wonder if its a difference in when it was bought, and what improvements may have been made...or different fabricators..???

my oem one is high across the middle of the fenders...and will need massaging to fit nice...

67's seem to fit good-its the pressing for the power bulges that seem to be the problem with them.

All things considered-the originals weren't that great and we're pretty lucky we can buy them at all.

I'd say 7-$900 is real for a "cherry" 67 hood

yes 66 would be less common or "rare" rarer is not nessicarily more desirable

yeah, but crappy repro 66 hoods will drive up the price of an oem one... I wonder how much a bodyshop would charge to massage one? i've seen some nightmares on repro panels too...guys were cutting them apart to line up body lines! crazy...

either way, he's got options, there's both repro and oem available...

A hood is probably the worst part on the car to "massage" its hard to work with (large piece of tin) then you'll likely need some filler-filler isn't good with the heat from the engine then the cold after it shuts off and again and again, plus you open and close it / slamming it-its not supported with weatherstripping like a door or trunk lid. Anyway in short buy the best hood you can-

Thanks for all the feedback and "steers" guys. I've emailed the Edm on to see if it's still available. Certainly worth a look if it is. I wish the Ottawa one was closer to Edmonton. (It has been on the market a little while.) A buddy of mine seems to think the repro's are better as the old ones seem to sag now (to the point that it looks like the "breathe" as they flex while driving.) I'll call Ausley's, Walker, and Ground Up to get a collective opinion.
thx muchly!
